Complex Needs Support Assistant Location: Pontefract / Castleford Contract: Full-time (Term-time) Start Date: ASAP or January 2026 Salary: Dependent on experience About the Role: We are seeking a compassionate, resilient, and dedicated Complex Needs Support Assistant to join our team. This role involves supporting children/young people with a range of complex needs, including physical disabilities, medical needs, communication difficulties, sensory needs, and social–emotional challenges. You will play a key role in ensuring pupils feel safe, supported, and able to engage positively in learning. Key Responsibilities * Provide tailored 1:1 or small-group support to pupils with complex needs * Assist with personalised learning programmes and progress toward EHCP targets * Support communication using visual aids, alternative communication systems, or specialist strategies * Assist with emotional regulation and behaviour support * Provide personal care and medical support where required (training provided) * Work closely with teachers, therapists, healthcare professionals, and the SENCO * Adapt activities and learning materials to ensure accessibility * Maintain accurate records and contribute to reviews and planning meetings * Create a nurturing, safe, and inclusive environment for all learners The Ideal Candidate Will: * Have experience supporting children/young people with complex or additional needs (school, care, or therapy settings welcome) * Be patient, calm, and empathetic * Be confident in using de-escalation and positive behaviour support strategies * Have strong communication and teamwork skills * Be proactive, flexible, and able to use initiative * Be committed to safeguarding and promoting pupil wellbeing * Hold a relevant qualification in SEND, childcare, education, or health & social care (desirable but not essential) What We Offer: * A supportive, friendly, and collaborative staff team * Ongoing professional development and specialist training * A meaningful role helping vulnerable learners reach their potential * A positive and inclusive school environment * Opportunities to work alongside experienced SEN professionals How to Apply Please submit your application form and supporting statement to [contact/email].
