Job Title: Principal Bridge Engineer
Working within the Cheshire West and Chester Structures Team, the successful candidate will provide technical expertise to deliver services specific to Highway Structures maintenance and asset management. The role will manage the programme of Principal Inspections, Scour Assessments, and Structural Reviews. The successful candidate will respond to Highway Structures queries and assist in the management and delivery of Term Maintenance Highway Structures works.
As a vital member of the team, you will work as part of a professional, responsive, and dedicated team undertaking a wide range of tasks. The role will require the use of your knowledge, judgment, and initiative, while being supported by the wider team.
Typical Duties include:
1. Carrying out designs, inspections, analyzing engineering problems, applying technical expertise and engineering judgment, and producing innovative solutions through the use of complex interactive computer systems (e.g., AutoCAD).
2. Managing wide-ranging works and activities on the public highway, including liaising with and supervising contractors during the maintenance of highway structures as part of the highway network.
3. Dealing with correspondence and telephone inquiries and consulting with statutory undertakers, District and Parish councils, other services, and units of the service.
4. Assisting the Team Leader for Highway Structures in monitoring and maximizing budgets to ensure cost-effective, efficient, and economical management of the work programme. Planning and managing scheme delivery, proactively monitoring overall progress, resolving issues, and initiating corrective actions.
5. Contributing to the continued development of the specific service area through the direct management and training of staff, including the identification, planning, and allocation of tasks/duties, along with supporting staff's personal development.
