Southampton City Council – Respite Services for Adults with Learning Disabilities Based in Southampton, Part-time & Sessional Roles Available

We’re on the lookout for dynamic, compassionate, and forward-thinking Support Workers to join our team at Kentish Road Respite Service – part of our Directly Delivered Services (DDS). This is your chance to be part of a team that’s reshaping adult social care in Southampton, with a focus on person-centred, strengths-based support for adults aged 18+ with learning disabilities, autism, neurodiversity, and complex needs. Kentish Road Respite is a CQC-registered service, committed to delivering high-quality care and support.

What You’ll Be Doing

As a Support Worker, you will provide person-centred, strengths-based care and support to individuals during their short stays at Kentish Road respite care home. The individuals are living with a range of disabilities, neurodiversity, and mental health needs. You will empower people to reach their potential, build resilience, and achieve outcomes that matter to them.

Daytime Support Workers: No two days are the same at Kentish Road, and as such, we require daytime Support Workers who are flexible to work mornings, afternoons, and long days on alternate weekends. There is a potential for split shifts and shifts during unsocial hours.

Nighttime Support Workers (Waking Nights): We require dedicated and compassionate waking night Support Workers to join our team. People who thrive in a calm, focused environment providing essential care and support during the night hours, contributing to the well-being and independence of individuals during the hours when others rest. Working alongside an Enablement Worker, you will assist with personal care, maintaining a safe and hygienic environment, and responding to emergencies in accordance with safety protocols.

Whether you work during the day or overnight, you will be part of a team that’s always adapting to meet the diverse needs of the people staying at Kentish Road Respite. That means working together to provide the best possible service – one that’s responsive, inclusive, and focused on enabling people to live as independently and meaningfully as they can.

This will include:

* Supporting individuals in everyday activities, helping them build confidence and skills.
* Assisting with personal care, medication, and emotional wellbeing.
* Enabling people to participate in meaningful activities.
* Helping people engage in their community and enjoy fulfilling experiences.
* Contributing to care plans and making sure support is tailored to each person.
* Keeping clear records and communicating effectively with families and colleagues.
* Being part of a team that’s open to change, growth, and new ideas.

What We’re Looking For

* People with experience or lived experience of supporting adults with learning disabilities, autism, or complex needs.
* A Level 2 Adult Social Care Certificate (or willingness to work towards it).
* Great communication skills, a positive attitude, and a commitment to equality and inclusion.
* Willingness to work flexible hours – including mornings, evenings, weekends, lone working when needed, or waking nighttime shifts.

Salary: The salary band for this role is £26,402 - £28,207. The starting salary is £26,402 with annual progression through the salary bands.
