About The Job
The Repair Design Authority (RDA) is a sub-function within 71 (Inspection & Repair) Squadron and is a Design Approved Organisation Scheme (DAOS) accredited establishment approved by the Military Airworthiness Authority (MAA). The RDA develops structural repair schemes for damaged fixed and rotary wing UK military registered aircraft and designs structural modifications to suit customer specifications. This small team currently has a vacancy for an experienced design engineer seeking a combined technical and leadership challenge to lead this team. This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.
Job Description
As the Team Leader, the successful applicant will be the Line, and Functional, Manager for the 5 Higher Executive Officer (HEO) grade members of the Design Team. The Team Leader will be responsible for delivering the safe, efficient, and effective output of the Team as expected by Officer Commanding 71 (Inspection & Repair) Squadron (71 (IR) Sqn). In addition, the Team Leader must ensure that the RDA is fully integrated within the rest of 71(IR) Sqn to maximise operational effectiveness and to support a harmonious working environment.
Responsibilities and Qualifications
Professional responsibilities for the Team Leader will be, once nominated by OC 71(IR) Sqn, to perform the following functions as listed in the 71(IR) Sqn DAOS Exposition:
* Design Safety Manager.
* Compliance Verification Engineer (CVE).
* Stress Note Signatory.
* Head of Design Organisation (HoD).
* Head of Airworthiness for the RDA.
Applicants must have a Level 4 qualification (minimum HNC or equivalent) in a relevant engineering subject, and they must have suitable aviation structural design experience (encompassing the understanding of structural loads, materials, and structural failure modes).
It is desirable, but not essential, that the successful applicant have a deep understanding of material stressing utilising Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software and be able to draw technical conclusions from FEA reports. Experience of using CAD packages is also considered desirable as is experience of leading teams. Professional registration to CEng or IEng standard is considered beneficial but not essential.
71(IR) Sqn customers are located at various locations around the UK and the successful applicant may occasionally need to travel with overnight stay at the customers location; therefore a full UK Driving Licence is essential.
