Offer description

Overview

Help us protect the environment, improve our network, and keep our communities safe. If you enjoy solving problems, working with data, and making a real impact on wastewater performance and the environment, this role is for you.

We’re looking for a Spill and Flow Technical Officer to take the lead on how we manage, monitor, and improve our flow and spill assets. You’ll join a small, dedicated team of just two or three Technical Officers, forming a key part of the wider Systems Performance Team. This structure gives you real ownership of your area, close collaboration with colleagues, and the opportunity to become a recognised expert in flow and spill performance.

You’ll work closely with operational teams, using your technical knowledge to keep our assets compliant, efficient, and performing at their best.

This isn’t a desk‑only role. You’ll split your time between analysing performance trends, interpreting operational data, influencing decisions, and getting hands‑on out on site. You’ll also have the autonomy to plan your own working day by prioritising site visits, investigations, data analysis, and operational support in the way that works best for you.

What you'll be doing

* Turn operational data into clear insights, spotting risks early and driving corrective action.
* Work closely with regional teams to make sure all flow and spill sites meet environmental and regulatory standards.
* Carry out site inspections and investigations to identify the causes of spills and find practical solutions.
* Provide accurate, high‑quality data for regulatory submissions and communications with the Environment Agency.
* Support and challenge operational teams to maintain safe, reliable, and efficient processes.
* Ensure telemetry alarms are fit for purpose to identify potential non‑compliant spills.
* Share your expertise through coaching, training, and promoting best practice across the team.

This role may not be eligible for sponsorship

What you'll bring

* Strong data analysis skills and the ability to interpret data and trends
* Able to confidently use and interpret information from multiple systems to understand what is happening on site.
* Good IT, numerical, and problem‑solving capabilities.
* Confident communication skills, including written, verbal, and in presenting information clearly.
* Hands‑on experience working within wastewater.
* Confident managing your own time and balancing site work with office‑based tasks.
* A solid understanding of flow and spill assets, including their operation and maintenance.
* Experience of EA regulations and permits

A full UK driving licence is required for this role

What we offer

* A generous annual leave package of 26 days, which increases to 30 days after four years of service (increases one day per year), in addition to 8 bank holidays
* A competitive pension scheme with up to 14% employer contribution, 21% combined, and life cover
* Up to 7.5% performance‑related bonus scheme, as well as recognition awards for outstanding achievements
* A comprehensive healthcare plan through our company‑funded scheme
* MyGymDiscounts - gym and wellness benefit that offers up to 25% off on gym memberships and digital fitness subscriptions
* Best Doctors
* Salary Finance
* Wealth at Work courses
* Deals and discounts
* EVolve Car Scheme
* Employee Assistance Plan
* Mental health first aiders
* ShareBuy
* MORE Choices flexible benefits
* Enhanced parental leave schemes
