OVERVIEW
A growing, founder-led solar PV and battery systems business is seeking a Commercial Technical Lead to support customer engagement, technical surveys, system design input, and installation delivery.
The business delivers a varied portfolio of projects across domestic and commercial settings, spanning both private and public sector clients. This brings differing technical requirements, stakeholder expectations, and decision-making environments.
The company is experiencing strong commercial growth and securing further opportunities across this portfolio. Your role is a key appointment, helping to increase technical and customer-facing capacity and enabling the next phase of growth.
This is a hands-on, install-adjacent role where a significant proportion of time will be spent in customer-facing technical and commercial conversations. It is not a desk-only position.
This opportunity will suit someone who is already operating at a strong technical level and is keen to grow into broader leadership responsibility over time, with increased exposure, trust, and influence as performance is demonstrated.
Over the longer term this role offers brilliant progression towards equity share, with commercial incentives available sooner if performance targets are met.
YOUR ROLE
You will act as a technical and commercial bridge between customers, installation teams, and the business owners, helping ensure projects are set up and delivered correctly from the outset.
Day to day, you will work closely with the business owners and leadership team, often acting as the primary technical and commercial contact for customers. This role offers genuine exposure and responsibility, with clear scope to grow in line with the business.
YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Acting as a senior technical point of reference across solar PV and battery systems
Working closely with the business owners to support current and future customer opportunities
Supporting and leading customer conversations around proposals, system design, and technical queries
Attending technical surveys and identifying constraints and risks early
Reviewing and interrogating system designs for feasibility, performance, and practical delivery
Providing technical and commercial input into pricing and quoting decisions
Working closely with installation teams and supporting technical decision-making
Helping reduce rework, site issues, and avoidable cost through early technical input
Liaising with external suppliers and partners on pricing, scheduling, and project requirements
ESSENTIAL TECHNICAL CAPABILITY
Solid, hands-on experience with solar PV and battery systems
Confident working across:
System fundamentals
Inverter and battery selection
Cable routing, protection, and practical installation constraints
Able to xkybehq understand and interrogate system designs
ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE AND ATTRIBUTES
Background as a senior installer, solar engineer, or install-adjacent technical role
Install-led mindset with strong practical judgement
Comfortable operating in customer-facing, commercially aware discussions
Professional, grounded approach suited to a founder-led, growing business
Clear appetite to grow into broader leadership responsibility over time
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE
Ideally you will also have exposure to some of the following, although these are not essential:
Larger domestic or light commercial systems
Three-phase installations
Exposure to DNO applications and/or MCS or audit environments
Fault diagnosis and remedial experience
Familiarity with CRM systems and processes around tenders and pitches
