Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service is currently recruiting for several Fixed Term Contracts within the Fire Control department.

We are offering opportunities for a Firefighter – Control post within our Fire Control department.
We seek individuals to join a small team responsible for receiving 999 emergency calls, dispatching fire crews, and supporting operational responses to incidents. The team also handles various technical, operational, and administrative duties.
Our Fire Control department operates a flexible-rostering duty system, working 2 days and 2 nights, followed by 4 rota days. This flexibility allows staff to come off shifts when staffing levels are sufficient or work during shortages.

Applicants should have:
* Good written and verbal communication skills
* Excellent interpersonal skills
* Computer literacy with a minimum typing speed of 30 words per minute
* The ability to remain calm and manage situations involving emergency calls
Previous experience in emergency call handling is desirable. Candidates must demonstrate excellent communication skills, interpersonal abilities, computer literacy, and the capacity to handle emergency situations calmly and effectively.
Successful candidates will undergo 5 weeks of training at our Fire Control Training Centre, followed by an additional 2 weeks of on-the-job training.
The closing date for applications is Thursday, 3rd July 2025. Interviews, including a typing test and emergency call handling role-play, are scheduled for the week commencing 14th July 2025.
The position is based at Headquarters, St Michael’s Street, Shrewsbury, with an anticipated relocation to our Telford site in early 2026.
Successful candidates will be required to complete a Basic Disclosure Check and a Pre-Employment Medical.
