Overview
This role is within the ALAS Posture & Mobility Service based in Treforest Industrial Estate. The postholder will work within the community repairing wheelchairs and will be provided with a UHB vehicle.
Responsibilities
* Repair and adjust wheelchairs, including fitting components.
* Visit patients' homes across South Wales; require full driving licence and awareness of lone worker issues.
* Carry out administrative functions to support the clinical and technical team: administration, loading/unloading equipment, checking equipment prior to fittings, and monitoring van stock.
* Participate in the out‑of‑hours emergency repair service.
* Assess and diagnose faults in posture and mobility equipment and carry out appropriate repairs in the community to ensure equipment is functional and safe for patient use.
* Conduct basic programming and diagnostics of powered wheelchairs.
* Demonstrate and adjust the setup of wheelchairs and accessories in the patient's home, community or school under the clinical guidance and direction of senior clinicians/technicians.
* Fit special accessories at the clinic or at the patient's home within specified range under instructions from senior clinical/technical staff.
* Be flexible with time management to support on‑call out‑of‑hours service as required.
* Full‑time posts Monday‑Friday; part of out‑of‑hours emergency repair service.
Qualifications
* NVQ Level 3 or equivalent technical qualification.
* Ability to use a range of engineering tools.
* Experience working with wheelchairs in a technical capacity desirable.
* Full driving licence; able to drive across South Wales.
* Strong organisational and team‑working skills.
* Patient focus and desire to provide the best service to patients.
* Ability to speak Welsh desirable; Welsh and/or English speakers welcome.
