An exciting opportunity has arisen for internal staff with RCUK ALS Course director status to join our bank ALS faculty.
The trust has recently been awarded RCUK ALS Instructor status, and we are looking to recruit pre-qualified course directors into the new B7 course lead role, to oversee the delivery of courses to internal and external candidates during their spare time.
You will be working alongside both internal and external instructor faculty, as well as course medical directors to ensure the smooth running of ALS courses against the high standards expected by RCUK.
Main duties of the job
You will be the clinician responsible for the overall on-the-day running and management of RCUK Advanced Life Support courses delivered by the East of England Ambulance Service, working alongside both RCUK instructors and the course medical director.
You will act as a point of escalation for both staff and candidates, making informed decisions as a subject matter expert and course lead.
You will provide on-the-day solutions to problems, should the occur. Providing innovative solutions that draw upon your initiative and experience.
You will contribute to the overall assessment decisions of candidates, determining whether they are suitable to receive ALS provider status.
You will be expected to manage staff and candidates when required, as well as having the duty to escalate concerns about a HCP's abilities to the employer or registering body when required.
You will maintain an excellent working knowledge of the course regulations and RCUK clinical guidelines, providing advice and oversight alongside the medical director where necessary.
You will report on candidate outcomes to RCUK, and ensure paperwork is undertaken in a correct an timely manner, as well as reporting in to EEAST senior management where required.
You will uphold the rigorous standards expected of ALS faculty, and staff of the East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust. This will include an excellent working knowledge of EEAST educational and management policy.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The postholder will be a clinician responsible for the overall on-the-day running and direction of a Resuscitation Council UK ALS Training Course, in line with RCUK Regulations.
This includes ensuring the correct facilitation of sessions and assessments according to the course specification, correct course timings, dealing with concerns effectively, escalation to employers or awarding bodies, and the successful facilitation of instructor-potential candidates.
The successful applicant will be a confident pre-hospital Clinician, holding an RCUK General Instructor qualification, with authorisation and experience of teaching Advanced Life Support.
RCUK Resuscitation Course Directors are expected to act as the on-course manager and senior clinician, and so must maintain their knowledge, competence and confidence in delivering instruction and direction against both the latest RCUK guidelines and course regulations.
This includes maintaining Continuous Professional Development, and practical skills in the clinical or simulated environment.
Directors will be required to manage and coordinate instructors and candidates in a professional yet compassionate manner, adhering to both RCUK and Trust guidelines, including the Academic Regulations Policy.
This may involve liaison with senior Trust managers, RCUK representatives, candidate/instructor employers or regulatory bodies.
Instructors and candidates will be from a variety of clinical backgrounds and organisations and, therefore, directors must uphold the rigorous standards expected of a public facing member of the Ambulance Service, including appearance, values and professionalism.
Course Directors, along with Course Medical Directors, have overall responsibility for the pass or referral of a candidate and must uphold the rigorous standards expected of ALS.

HCP Status and experience
Essential criteria
1. Relevant professional registration (HCPC, NMC), consistent with the RCUK requirements, with evidence of Continuing Professional Development.
2. Confident and experienced Pre-Hospital Clinician, with practical application of resuscitation skills (relevant to grade) in the clinical environment.
Desirable criteria
3. Experience of resuscitation across a variety of clinical settings including ED, ICU, etc.
4. Knowledge and application of advanced resuscitation skills outside of normal pre-hospital practice (eg POCUS).
RCUK Status and educational experience
Essential criteria
5. Active, Resuscitation Council UK Course Director status and approval to direct Advanced Life Support.
6. Valid RCUK e-ALS or ALS qualification.
7. Experienced RCUK ALS Course Director, meeting the RCUK regulations for maintaining competence and qualification.
8. Experienced and effective Educator and Assessor, with an awareness of contemporary learning theory and effective teaching techniques.
9. Experienced in confident and competent management of candidates and instructors in line with RCUK regulations.
10. Experienced in on-the-day problem resolution and/or escalation of concerns to Senior Trust Managers.
11. Experience of solid and sound decision making with regard to delivering education, raising concerns and referring candidates.
Desirable criteria
12. Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training or equivalent or Higher-Level Teaching qualification.
13. Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement or equivalent or Higher-Level Assessing qualification.
14. Level 4 Diploma in Leading Internal Quality Assurance or equivalent or Higher Lead IQA qualification.
15. Experience of teaching other courses and programmes of learning from other awarding organisations.
You are required to hold a full UK manual driving licence with 1 year driving experience (a maximum of 3 penalty points for minor motoring offences will be considered).
