Overview
This is a full-time role within Eurofins Food Testing in the microbiology team. The position is 36.25 hours per week, Tuesday to Saturday 09:30 to 17:30, with a training shift pattern from Monday to Friday.
Responsibilities
* Preparation of media (agars, etc.) to be used in microbiological analysis.
* Sample preparation in line with company protocols.
* Microbiological analysis of water/food/feed/swabs samples in line with company protocols.
* Training and operation of relevant equipment.
* General housekeeping of laboratory and prevention of cross contamination.
* Accurate data entry into laboratory database.
* Accurate record-keeping associated with UKAS quality system.
* Effective communication with all employees.
* Report any anomalous results or situations to line manager.
* Adhere to health and safety procedures within the laboratory.
* Collection of laboratory samples from customer sites (food only, when required).
* Any other related activities as required by post.
Qualifications
* Computer literate with experience of MS Office applications (in particular Excel).
* Comfortable working in a busy environment.
* Excellent organisational skills with the ability to work quickly and accurately.
* Ability to work on own initiative as well as part of a team.
* Strong communication skills.
* It is desirable to have a degree in a related scientific field.
* It is desirable to have experience of culture of microorganisms and knowledge of laboratory accreditation systems (ideally ISO 17025).
