Our client is seeking a Groundworks Estimator / Senior Estimator to join their permanent team. The successful candidate will play a key role in preparing accurate and competitive tenders, cost plans, and budgets for groundworks and civil engineering projects. This is a hands-on role requiring strong technical knowledge, commercial awareness, and the ability to liaise effectively with clients, suppliers, and internal teams. Strong direct labour pool ensuring projects are delivered to a high standard
Small but dynamic leadership team the Estimator will have direct access to ensuring the right levels of communication and collaboration with the decision making team
Key Responsibilities
Prepare detailed cost estimates for groundworks and civil engineering projects
Analyse drawings, specifications, and tender documents to assess scope and requirements
Source and evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotations
Prepare bills of quantities and pricing schedules
Work closely with project managers and site teams to ensure accurate forecasting and cost control
Attend client meetings and site visits as required
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry rates, materials, and market trends
Support the business in securing profitable contracts and building long-term client relationships
Candidate Profile
Proven experience as an Estimator within groundworks or civil engineering
Strong knowledge of excavation, drainage, foundations, and reinforced concrete works
Excellent numerical and analytical skills with attention to detail
Proficiency in estimating software and MS Office (Excel essential)
Strong communication and negotiation skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Commercially astute with a proactive approach to problem-solving
Qualifications & Experience
Background in civil engineering, construction management, or related discipline (degree or HNC/HND preferred)
Minimum 35 years estimating experience in groundworks/civil engineering
Knowledge of relevant health, safety, and compliance standards
