Offer description

Prison Support Role

This role offers a unique opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment, supporting the day-to-day operations of a busy prison.

As an Operational Support Grade, you will be part of a supportive team responsible for tasks such as security and searches, managing deliveries, supervising visitors, and monitoring phone calls and CCTV. The role involves a combination of desk duties and physical tasks, including lifting, carrying, and walking to accompany vehicles across the prison grounds.

To succeed in this role, you don't need any formal qualifications, but you should possess good communication skills and be able to remain calm under pressure. This is an excellent starting point for a successful career, offering opportunities for growth and development.

Working closely with colleagues, you will have good judgement and common sense, ensuring that the prison operates smoothly and safely. You will be required to work a variety of shifts, including weekends and nights, to maintain continuity.

A full, valid UK driving licence is essential for the role at HMP Huntercombe.

This position provides a chance to make a positive impact on people's lives by supporting the vital work carried out in our prisons. Unlike our prison officers, your interaction with prisoners is limited, although this may vary depending on the specific prison you are working in.

The Operational Support Grade role can provide valuable knowledge and experience of how a prison operates, opening up opportunities for progression into other roles within the prison service, including the OSG to Prison Officer conversion scheme.

What We Offer:

We provide comprehensive training and opportunities for progression and development. In addition to your base salary, you will receive:

* Annual leave: 25 days on appointment, increasing to 30 days after 10 years' service (calculated on a pro-rata basis)
* 9 days bank, public, and privilege holidays
* Access to a paid Level 2 apprenticeship in customer service
* Access to the Civil Service pension scheme, season ticket loans, retail discounts, an Employee Assistance Programme, and a Cycle to Work scheme
