Job overview

The Hospital Palliative Care Team has a unique opportunity for a new Band 7 registered nurse to join a high profile team at NUH. The role involves delivering a specialist palliative care service to adult areas throughout Nottingham University Hospitals Trust, supporting service development and education, and playing a pivotal role in End of Life initiatives across the Trust.


Main duties of the job

The Hospital Palliative Care Team (HPCT) sees approximately 2000 patients a year across both campuses of Nottingham University Hospitals.

As a member of the HPCT, this role requires the post holder to autonomously lead on and/or provide:

* A specialist palliative care service to patients with life‑limiting illnesses and their carers.
* Specialist education and support to all members of the multidisciplinary team (MDT).
* The development and undertaking of clinical audit and research relevant to palliative care, actively encompassing change management.
* Strategic and clinical leadership in the development and delivery of local palliative care services, consistent with national, regional and local strategies.
* The development and support of excellence in end of life care.


Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Work collaboratively with other members of the specialist palliative care team across NUH and community services to maintain the quality of life for patients requiring specialist palliative care.

Provide specialist advice, guidance and supervision to a caseload of patients and/or their carers with complex symptom control and psycho‑social support needs.

Lead developments in nursing practice in relation to specialist palliative care, identifying areas for clinical audit and research.

Provide clinical leadership by role‑modeling and support, guidance, specialist advice and education to staff of all disciplines across various care settings.

Lead ongoing strategic developments in the management of palliative care services at NUH, consistent with national, regional and local strategies.

Develop and maintain close‑working relationships with all statutory and voluntary agencies involved in the care of patients with specialist palliative care needs.


Person specification


Qualifications

* NMC registration.
* Equivalent knowledge in palliative care.


Experience

* Significant experience in a senior nursing role.
* Experience caring for palliative & EOL patients.
* Experience delivering teaching.
* Specialist palliative care experience.
* Experience of service developments.
