About the Role
We are currently recruiting for a Laboratory Support Assistant to join the team at the Veterinary Sciences Division based at Stoney Road, Belfast. This role sits within the Bacteriology Department and supports activities across the wider organisation.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to gain experience within a laboratory environment. Full in-house training will be provided, and no previous laboratory experience is required for candidates who meet the qualification criteria.
Key Responsibilities
Duties will include:
1. General cleaning of laboratory areas and disposal of waste
2. Assisting with the preparation of both solid and liquid media using automated media preparation systems
3. Operating laboratory equipment including printer machines and autoclaves
4. Carrying out stock checks of laboratory supplies and consumables
5. Cleaning and sterilising glassware and laboratory equipment
6. Distributing and collecting glassware, media, and consumables between buildings on site
7. Collection, sterilisation, and disposal of laboratory waste
8. Preparation of laboratory consumables
9. Completing laboratory daybooks and associated paperwork accurately
10. Working as part of a team to meet required quality standards and turnaround times
11. Supporting with additional duties as required by management
Essential Criteria
Applicants must meet one of the following:
12. Minimum of 2 GCSEs (Grades A*-C), including English and Maths
OR
13. At least 6 months' experience in a similar role
Applicants must also:
14. Hold a full current UK driving licence (or exchangeable licence) for manual vehicles

15. Strict adherence to health and safety procedures is essential

17. The role involves manual handling duties
18. Part of the role requires driving a vehicle around the site
