Senior Highway Engineer (Maintenance) – Bournemouth
This role focuses on the design, management, and delivery of maintenance schemes for the highway network, including carriageways, footways, cycleways and drainage assets.
Key responsibilities
* Lead design and development of highway maintenance schemes from concept to construction, ensuring all stages are completed effectively.
* Review and produce design drawings, specifications, tender and pre‑construction documentation.
* Manage the planned maintenance programme based on asset management priorities and condition data.
* Oversee site inspections, assess site information via desktop studies and use asset management software.
* Manage contracts and ensure performance meets required standards and timescales.
* Collaborate with stakeholders and contractors to achieve innovative, cost‑effective solutions for the highway network.
* Ensure projects comply with technical standards, legal obligations and health and safety regulations.
* Support development of asset management policies, strategies and methods to improve highway maintenance services.
Key experience and qualifications
* Leading the design and delivery of highway maintenance projects, including asset management and lifecycle planning.
* Managing budgets, risks and quality control to meet agreed objectives.
* Strong understanding of NEC3/NEC4 forms of contract for highway maintenance projects.
* Extensive experience in highways, civil engineering construction and maintenance treatments.
* Proficiency with asset management systems and relevant IT tools.
* Excellent stakeholder management skills with a track record of collaboration with contractors and partners.
* A full UK driving licence and ability to travel independently across sites.
