Agile Delivery Lead (Multi‑Team / Scaling Agile)

Lorien is partnering with a major UK financial services organisation to hire an Agile Delivery Lead to help optimise delivery across a growing agile set-up.
This role is for someone who has “swallowed the book” on agile but understands it is a tool, not the goal. You will be comfortable selecting and tailoring delivery approaches (e.g., Scrum, Kanban, Nexus and other scaled patterns) based on the teams, the people and the outcomes required. The organisation’s delivery is good today, but they want an experienced leader to raise maturity, remove friction and improve predictability without introducing unnecessary bureaucracy.
This is not a traditional Project Manager position. The ideal person is either an agile coach who wants to return to hands-on delivery, or an experienced Agile Delivery Lead / Release Train Engineer / Senior Delivery Manager who blends theory with real-world execution.
The Role
WHAT YOU’LL DO
You will take ownership of delivery leadership across multiple teams, focusing on practical improvement and outcomes, including:
* Leading delivery across multiple agile teams, improving flow, predictability and outcomes.
* Selecting and tailoring delivery approaches (Scrum, Kanban, Nexus, etc.) to suit the teams and context.
* Identifying bottlenecks and enabling teams to work more effectively (ways of working, ceremonies, dependency management, team health).
* Operating hands-on at times (e.g., Scrum Master responsibilities for a team when needed).
* Introducing and embedding lightweight delivery leadership practices where there is currently no formal governance, keeping it pragmatic and value-driven.
* Coaching teams and stakeholders in how to work effectively while keeping the focus on delivery (not just “doing agile”).
What We’re Looking For
Essential experience and skills:
* Proven experience leading delivery across multiple agile teams (not single-team only).
* Strong practical understanding of agile and scaled delivery approaches (Scrum/Kanban/Nexus or similar), and when to use each.
* A track record of optimising delivery (e.g., improving predictability, throughput, cycle time, quality, dependency management, or team maturity).
* Comfort operating in environments with limited/no governance, able to introduce structure without bureaucracy.
* Strong communication and stakeholder skills, able to influence and align multiple teams.
* Enough technical understanding to work effectively with technology teams (not coding, but comfortable with delivery/engineering constraints and frameworks).
* Financial services experience (asset management helpful but not essential, open-minded on background).
* Previous experience in roles such as Delivery Lead, Senior Delivery Manager, Release Train Engineer, Agile Coach.
