Tobacco Dependency Advisor

Job Responsibilities
* Deliver 1:1 maternity tobacco dependency interventions, providing bespoke smoking cessation support through face‑to‑face, virtual and telephone consultations.
* Advise pregnant and post‑natal women and their families on nicotine replacement therapy (NRT), including dosage, strengths and supply management.
* Provide behavioural support and NRT to help women remain smoke‑free, arranging and coordinating clinic and home visits when required.
* Work collaboratively with midwifery and multidisciplinary teams to ensure tobacco‑related health information is available and integrated into care pathways.
* Manage incoming referrals to the in‑house Maternity Tobacco Dependency Service and outgoing referrals to local providers after pregnancy.
* Maintain accurate electronic patient records, including smoking status, treatment plans and CO monitoring data.
* Implement and improve Maternity Smoke‑Free protocols, advocating for evidence‑based practice and policy development.
* Communicate updates and sensitive information to line managers and relevant staff, ensuring confidentiality and data protection compliance.
* Identify and report concerns regarding maternal and infant health, safeguarding, and mental health to appropriate professionals.
* Keep stock of NRT and deliver CO monitoring to a high standard, completing all required documentation.
* Support and manage a caseload of patients, tailoring individualised support plans and monitoring quit rates.
* Participate in statutory and mandatory training, identify personal development needs and seek feedback to enhance performance.
* Advise on health promotion, educating women on the benefits of quitting smoking and promoting smoke‑free homes.
* Engage in public health initiatives, community development and the reduction of health inequalities.
General Duties
* Build and maintain effective working relationships with patients, families and multidisciplinary staff.
* Communicate clearly, respectfully and without bias, promoting equality and inclusion.
* Adhere to health and safety, infection control, and safeguarding policies.
* Demonstrate flexibility in working hours to support patient needs across the county.
* Operate independently within competence, escalating to leaders when necessary.
Administrative Duties
* Maintain accurate, confidential clinical documentation and records.
* Plan and manage workload across face‑to‑face, clinic, home visits and virtual appointments.
* Input data into IT systems, monitor and report smoking and quit rates.
* Arrange follow‑up appointments and track progress of treatment plans.
Qualifications
* GCSE level English and Mathematics or equivalent.
* NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in health‑related studies, or substantial successful experience delivering stop‑smoking interventions.
* NCSCT trained Stop Smoking Practitioner (preferred).
Knowledge and Skills
* Good understanding of evidence‑based practice in smoking cessation.
* Knowledge of human behaviour contributing to lifestyle changes.
* Strong communication, listening and organisational skills.
* Ability to build and maintain relationships with professionals from diverse backgrounds.
* Capacity to prioritise workload and coordinate schedules with minimal supervision.
Experience
* Experience delivering healthcare advice or promoting healthy lifestyles to patients or the public.
* Experience working directly with patients, families or carers in health or social care settings.
* Experience providing one‑to‑one or group support on smoking cessation.
* Experience in multi‑professional team environments and tobacco dependence treatment.
* Experience delivering successful health promotion interventions.
* Experience working with vulnerable populations.
