Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities The services include: advising clinical and other staff on Nuclear Medicine physics and other aspects as required, measuring and calculating radiation doses to patients, staff and others from Nuclear Medicine procedures, developing the Nuclear Medicine service by introducing novel procedures and examinations, administering patient therapies and ensuring the safety of patients, staff and members of the public during and following the therapy (in relation to radiation exposure and contamination). Ensuring Nuclear Medicine procedures are performed correctly and that equipment is operating safely and accurately, investigating complex faults in Nuclear Medicine equipment, evaluation, selection, procurement, installation and acceptance testing of equipment, ensuring R&D projects and clinical trials are performed safely and legally, ensuring compliance with a diverse range of legislation relating to the use of radioactive materials and the operation of the Radiopharmacy, providing advice and protocols for performing and analysing patient procedures. This is a specialist role, with the freedom to initiate action within broad scientific principles as directed by the Head of Nuclear Medicine Physics. The post holder leads at least one specialist area e.g., diagnostic nuclear medicine, unsealed source therapy or PET-CT The postholder has advanced theoretical and practical knowledge of Nuclear Medicine Physics and acts as a Medical Physics Expert (MPE) in their specialist area(s). The post holder provides specialist scientific support and advice to Consultants, clinical, scientific, and technical staff on highly complex issues and the interpretation of relevant guidance related to Nuclear Medicine. They will engage in optimisation of clinical protocols and in the development of translational techniques and procedures in conjunction with clinical colleagues. The post holder undertakes specific research and development activities, and keeps abreast of new developments in their field. Person specification Commitment to Trust Values and Behaviours Essential Criteria Must be able to demonstrate behaviours consistent with the Trust's Values and Behaviours Training & Qualifications Essential criteria Good honours degree in physics or related subject MSc in relevant subject or Equivalent HCPC registration as a Clinical Scientist Evidence of post qualification specialist training (CPD) Enrolled on a recognised CPD scheme Desirable criteria Corporate Member of IPEM Able to act as a RPA Able to act as a RWA Experience Essential criteria Registered as a Medical Physics Expert and post registration experience The post holder must have an expert level of knowledge in the Physics of Nuclear Medicine. Expert theoretical and practical knowledge and understanding of patient and staff risks arising from clinical failure and staff error Able to use Excel, Word, Access etc to set up documents, drawings, spreadsheets and extract information for reports. The Trust will pay for the check initially and the money will then be deducted from your salary over a three month period commencing on your first month's payment. The current price of a check is £38 for an enhanced and £18 for a standard check.
