Band 6 Children's Occupational Therapist ( Would be considered as a Band 5 development opportunity)

Full or Part-time - up to 37.5 hours per week ( Flexible working considered, regarding hours)

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Band 6 Occupational Therapist within our Children's Occupational Therapy Service.

We are also delighted to offer this as a developmental role, starting at Band 5 with a structured pathway to progress to Band 6 on completion of competencies.

We are looking for an Occupational Therapist who is enthusiastic, creative and passionate with their clinical skills in working with children and young people to reach their potential and empower them to thrive in everyday occupations.

You will work as part of a friendly, supportive, and forward-thinking team dedicated to providing a high-quality Occupational Therapy Service to children up to 18 years old who have functional difficulties within self‑care, play and/or school occupations. You will provide specialist Occupational Therapy assessment, advice/intervention for children with functional difficulties, with a range of needs and conditions, working collaboratively with families and professionals.

The role offers varied and rewarding work across settings, including the Phoenix Children's Resource Centre, homes, special schools, mainstream schools, and nurseries.

Main duties of the job

* To be responsible for a clinical caseload of paediatric occupational therapy including assessment, interpretation of assessment results, evaluation, treatment, and advice, through the use of evidence-based practice and outcome measures.
* To carry out assessments and evaluate the child's occupational performance. This will include the use of standardised and non-standardised assessments, observation, interview with parent or carer and/or parent and teacher questionnaires.
* To develop, plan and implement specialist Occupational Therapy treatment programmes and strategies to enhance the child's ability to perform everyday activities and participate in multiple environments. This could include verbal and written advice/recommendations, written advice sheets and individual treatment.
* Assess a child's need for specialist equipment and small aids (e.g. specialist seating, bath aids and toilet aids), advise and recommend/provide appropriate equipment for use at home, pre-school and school, in line with service criteria.
* Review and complete adjustments to specialist equipment, e.g. specialist seating, ensuring equipment is appropriate to meet the child functional needs within the identified occupations and to demonstrate use to family and professionals working with the child.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* Educated to diploma or degree level in Occupational Therapy or equivalent training/study.


Professional Registration

* HCPC registration.
* Member of the specialist sections or groups relevant to children's OT.


Training

* Evidence of Continuing Professional Development.
* Additional training in the assessment and treatment of children with functional needs.
* Up to date Moving & Handling training.
* Relevant post‑registration specialist education – ideally sensory integration training levels 1 and 2.
* Fieldwork educator or equivalent.
* Moving & handling link or 'train the trainer'.


Experience

* Experience of working in community NHS paediatric practice.
* Experience in assessing, planning and delivering occupation‑focused intervention for children with a range of difficulties e.g. physical disabilities, multiple and complex conditions, challenging behaviour, coordination or sensory processing difficulties.
* Experience of equipment prescription and its principles in the paediatric setting.
* Excellent working knowledge of child development, related conditions and the implications for Occupational Therapy.
* Experience of upper limb splinting.
* Experience in specialist school provision.
* Working knowledge of the SEND agenda and reforms.


Specific Skills

* Ability to independently manage a clinical caseload of children with varying needs within a community paediatric setting.
* Ability to assess and analyse a child's functional abilities using standardised and non‑standardised methods.
* Ability to take an evidence‑informed approach to assessments and interventions, using an occupation‑based focus.
* Ability to line‑manage others, including appraisal and performance management.
* Confidence and competence in relating evidence-based theory to practice.


Information Technology and Information Governance

* Good IT skills, including the use of Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
* Competent in use of electronic patient records.
* Ability to use information resources/ portals to order equipment, produce and submit data, reports, etc.
* Experience of EMIS.
* Experience of TECS.

£31,049 to £52,521 a year
Inc HCAS Per annum pro rata (full range between band 5/6)
