Job Info:

Technical Co-Founder / WordPress & Performance Engineer (Equity-Based Role)

Location: Remote (UK preferred, but open to the right candidate)

Compensation: Equity stake in a fast-growing business (negotiable based on commitment and availability)

About Tack and Jibe:

Tack and Jibe is a rapidly growing marine-industry startup on a mission to make buying, selling, and managing boats simpler, smarter, and more connected.

We launched our platform in January 2025, and within just three months had over 800 boats listed. After gathering feedback from our clients, we rebuilt the platform to deliver a more powerful dashboard and feature set — and since relaunching just eight weeks ago, we've already grown to 1,400+ listings.

We're focused on perfecting our platform for the UK market before taking it worldwide. Beyond our core listings platform, we have ambitious plans to expand into marine-specific web design/build services, CRM software, franchising opportunities, and more — building a comprehensive ecosystem for the marine industry.

The Opportunity:

This is an opportunity to join a company with significant traction and momentum, at a moment when you can directly shape its future and share in its success.

We're looking for a Technical Co-Founder — someone to take ownership of our technology and help us scale the platform for long-term growth. This is an equity-only role at the outset, ideal for someone entrepreneurial who wants to be part of building a category-leading business rather than just working for one.

You'll work directly with the founding team, contribute to product strategy, and make technical decisions that set us up for success as we grow — first in the UK, then globally.

What You'll Do:

• Lead the technical development and performance of the Tack and Jibe platform

• Customise and extend our WordPress/WooCommerce setup (themes, plugins, REST API integrations)

• Optimise database performance (MySQL/MariaDB), implement caching strategies (Redis, Opcache, Cloudflare/CDN best practices), and fine-tune NGINX + PHP-FPM for scalability

• Improve site speed, security, and reliability to deliver a best-in-class user experience

• Build and maintain advanced search/filtering tools (ElasticSearch, Algolia, etc.)

• Implement robust security measures (nonces, sanitisation, escaping, authentication flows)

• Manage deployments with Git, leverage WP-CLI for automation, and maintain a clean staging → production workflow

• Collaborate on product strategy, roadmap planning, and new feature development

What We're Looking For:

• Strong background in WordPress development (PHP, theme/plugin customisation, hooks/actions, REST API)

• Expertise in server-side performance optimisation for WordPress/WooCommerce

• Experience with database tuning, caching layers, and scalable infrastructure

• Competence in CSS/JavaScript for theme-level customisations

• Familiarity with modern dev workflows (Git, staging environments, cron automation)

• Pragmatic, problem-solving mindset — someone comfortable moving quickly and iterating

• Entrepreneurial spirit: you're excited by the idea of helping grow a business from early-stage to industry leader

Why Join Us:

• Real equity, real impact: This is a true partnership — you'll hold a meaningful stake in a business that's already proving its potential.

• Rapid growth: We've more than doubled our listings in two months post-relaunch, and we're just getting started.

• Big vision: Our plan is to dominate the UK market, then expand globally — and branch into complementary marine services like CRM tools, web design, and franchising.

• Strong market opportunity: We compete with giants like YachtWorld, Rightboat, and Boats Group, but with a fresher, more modern approach.

• Small, passionate team: You'll work closely with the founders, shaping the future of the platform and the company.

Commitment:

Equity is negotiable and will reflect your level of involvement (full-time or part-time) and contribution to the growth of the business. This is not a freelance contract — it's an opportunity to become part of the founding team and build something meaningful together.

How To Apply:

If you're ready to join a rapidly growing business with a global vision — and you want to be part of building the future of the marine industry — we'd love to hear from you.

For more information, or to apply, contact us at

Send us:

• A short introduction about yourself and why this opportunity excites you

• Links to your portfolio, GitHub, or examples of your work

• Your availability and how you'd like to contribute (full-time or part-time)

Let's build something incredible — and take it worldwide.
