The Opportunity An excellent opportunity has become available for a detail-focused Quality Controller to join a busy fresh produce operation based in Tonbridge, Kent. This role is key to ensuring all products leaving site meet strict customer specifications, legal requirements, and food safety standards. You will play a critical part in maintaining product integrity, traceability, and quality throughout the packing and dispatch process. This position would suit someone with experience in fresh produce, food manufacturing, or quality control who is confident working in a fast-paced production environment. Key Responsibilities • Quality & Production Control • Ensure all products meet customer specifications before leaving the packhouse • Carry out final pallet inspections including quality, packaging, labelling, and presentation • Verify pack labels, tray end labels, and pallet identification accuracy • Apply QC approval or HOLD status labels as appropriate • Oversee and instruct staff on correct packing standards, customer requirements, and pack formats • Monitor traceability and ensure all checks and records are completed accurately • Carry out calibration checks, hygiene checks, and glass/foreign body checks as required • Report any non-conformances immediately to supervisors or management • Ensure correct equipment, packaging, and labels are being used at all times Intake & Dispatch Control • Inspect incoming and outgoing pallets against specification and order documentation • Release approved stock for dispatch with correct QC labelling • Isolate and report failed stock with correct HOLD procedures • Communicate inspection results and issues to warehouse and suppliers • Complete QC reports and update system records (e.g. Prophet system) • Ensure all inspections are completed within required timeframes Health & Safety / Food Safety • Maintain high standards of hygiene and cleanliness across production areas • Ensure GMP and HACCP procedures are followed at all times • Ensure correct PPE is worn and food safety standards are met • Report hazards, risks, or unsafe practices immediately • Support compliance with internal and external audits • Assist with incident reporting where required • Promote a strong “clean as you go” culture Administration • Complete all QC paperwork accurately, legibly, and on time • Ensure correct documentation is signed, dated, and filed correctly • Manage packing instruction checks and approvals prior to production • Maintain accurate records for traceability and audit purposes • Collect and manage quality and shelf-life samples where required • Ensure system updates are completed correctly and in line with procedure Team Support & Continuous Improvement • Support and guide production teams on quality expectations • Assist colleagues where workload allows • Lead by example with a professional and positive attitude • Suggest improvements to processes, quality systems, and efficiency • Report underperformance or issues to line management when required What We’re Looking For • Previous experience in quality control, food manufacturing, or fresh produce environments • Strong attention to detail and high standards of accuracy • Good communication skills with the ability to give clear instructions • Understanding of food safety standards (HACCP / GMP preferred) • Ability to work in a fast-paced production environment • Strong organisational and record-keeping skills • Positive, hands-on approach with a team mindset Key Performance Indicators • Product quality and compliance • Customer feedback • Audit performance (internal and external) • Accuracy of reporting and documentation • Efficiency of inspection processes
