Overview
Band 5 Qualified Education Mental Health Practitioner (EMHP) – East Cambs Mental Health Support Team (MHST) based in Ely, East of England Community Health and Care NHS Trust.
Job Purpose
Work as an autonomous practitioner in educational and health care settings, delivering evidence‑based early interventions to children, young people, parents and carers with mild to moderate mental health difficulties. Operate within the local job description and under supervision.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
* Assess and deliver outcome‑focused, evidence‑based interventions in schools and colleges.
* Conduct holistic, child‑centred mental health assessments, including risk assessments and risk formulations.
* Support children and young people to self‑manage presenting difficulties and develop agreed outcomes.
* Signpost referrals for more complex needs to appropriate specialist services.
* Escalate cases where the level of need or risk exceeds the scope of practice.
* Provide evidence‑based psychological support, primarily guided self‑help.
* Maintain accurate, professionally coherent records of all activity, informing decision‑making and meeting data collection requirements.
* Attend multi‑disciplinary and multi‑agency meetings as required.
* Participate in clinical and safeguarding audits and deliver continuous professional development.
* Collaborate with other agencies to ensure regular case reviews and effective progression through the care pathway.
* Contribute to the development of individual or group clinical materials and training resources.
Communication and Development
* Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with a wide range of audiences, including senior management.
* Utilise theory, literature and research to support evidence‑based practice.
* Use computer systems efficiently for clinical work, data entry, reporting and remote interventions.
* Contribute data for service improvement and reporting via the Trust’s information systems, ensuring compliance with Information Governance and legislation.
Governance and Safeguarding
* Maintain strict confidentiality in line with the Data Protection Act.
* Adhere to infection control, risk assessment and management processes, and local safeguarding protocols.
* Participate in clinical, line management and safeguarding supervision on a regular basis.
* Meet mandatory training and other training requirements relevant to the role.
* Participate in relevant emergency preparedness processes for the team.
Qualifications and Registration
* Qualified EMHP required.
* Registered with BPS or BABCP is a condition of employment; registration in progress or intent to register accepted.
