Roles and Responsibilities

The Teaching Assistant will be expected to undertake the following specialised support duties:

Tailored Interventions: Deliver pre:planned literacy, numeracy, and EAL support programmes to individuals and small groups, tracking their progress carefully.
*

Inclusion Support: Actively support pupils with EHCPs (Education, Health, and Care Plans), adapting the learning environment and resources to ensure their full participation.
*

Resource Creation: Prepare differentiated learning materials that are culturally sensitive and support pupils with specific communication needs.
*

Behavioural Support: Use positive reinforcement and de:escalation techniques to manage challenging behaviour in line with the schools clear policy.
*

Liaison: Regularly liaise with the SENCo (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) and external agencies (e.g., Speech and Language Therapists).
*

Pupil Independence: Focus efforts on fostering pupil independence, encouraging them to self:regulate their learning and social interactions.

Requirements

The school expects applicants to demonstrate the following essential criteria:

Qualification: NVQ Level 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools (or equivalent) is highly desirable.
*

Experience: Significant proven experience working with pupils who have EAL and/or complex SEND in a UK primary school setting.
*

Competence: Excellent command of written and spoken English, and confidence in supporting primary curriculum content.
*

Personal Skills: High levels of empathy, resilience, reliability, and excellent organisation skills.
*

Compliance: Must possess a current Enhanced DBS check registered on the Update Service.
