HGV Technician - Doncaster
An opportunity has arisen for an experienced HGV Technician to join a busy commercial vehicle workshop operation. The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out maintenance, servicing and repair work on a fleet of heavy goods vehicles, ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard.
This role would suit someone with strong technical knowledge, excellent attention to detail and the ability to work both independently and within a team environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Carry out routine servicing, maintenance and repairs on HGVs and associated equipment
* Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults using diagnostic equipment and technical systems
* Complete vehicle inspections in line with legal and compliance requirements
* Ensure all repairs and maintenance activities are recorded accurately using workshop systems and documentation
* Conduct preventative maintenance and identify potential defects before they become major issues
* Perform vehicle road tests where required before and after repair work
* Follow workshop procedures relating to parts usage, warranty processes and stock control
* Maintain high standards of workmanship and ensure vehicles are returned in a safe and roadworthy condition
* Handle workshop equipment, tools and customer assets with care at all times
* Adhere to all health & safety and environmental procedures within the workshop
* Keep work areas clean, organised and safe
* Support colleagues and contribute positively within the workshop team
Candidate Requirements
Essential
* Relevant mechanical qualification such as NVQ, City & Guilds, or equivalent practical experience
* Previous experience working on commercial vehicles or HGVs
* Full UK driving licence
Desirable
* HGV/LGV licence (Class 1 or Class 2 advantageous)
* Experience using vehicle diagnostic systems
* Ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines
* Flexible approach to working hours and shift patterns
* Strong problem-solving skills
* Good communication and teamwork abilities
* Understanding of workshop health & safety practices
* Driver CPC or other industry-related certifications beneficial
Pay & Shift Patterns
* Monday to Friday shift pattern available — £21.60 per hour
* 4 on / 4 off shift pattern available — £22.50 per hour
