Who You Are You are an experienced planning officer, ideally with a degree or professional qualification in planning, and chartered membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute. You have substantial experience in development management and possess advanced knowledge across a number of specialist areas. You have a positive approach to development management issues and customers, and are adept at negotiating improvements to submitted schemes. With a thorough understanding of the relationship between planning policy and development management, you are organized and efficient in managing your own workload and the workload of others. What the Job Involves As a Principal Planning Officer within the Development Management Service, your key role is to ensure that land development is appropriate to its location while conserving the natural, built, and historic environment. The role involves processing a wide range of planning applications, especially large-scale proposals, and providing pre-planning advice through a fee-paying service. You will draft reports for both delegated and non-delegated applications, make decisions within delegated powers, and prepare appeal statements and represent the council at hearings. Your role also involves providing advice and guidance to colleagues, liaising with stakeholders, and participating in training delivery.
