Job title: Schools Officer – Curriculum

Reporting to: Head of Education, Children's and Youth Work

Managed by: Head of Education, Children's and Youth Work

Based at: The Diocesan Office, St Asaph

Salary: £35,000 per annum pro rata, 21 hours per week over three full days. However, this role may also include occasional evening and weekend work

Start Date: January 2026 or as soon as possible

Job purpose

The Diocesan Board of Statutory Education (DBSE) and the Nurturing Steering Group oversee the strategic work of the Education team. The Schools' Officer will contribute strategically to the Diocesan Board of Education's mission and ministry in education and the development and support of Church School education, in the context of the Mission areas and according to a Christian world-view. The post will offer significant opportunities to work creatively with church schools in the diocese, taking a lead on the development of Religion, Values and Ethics and Collective Worship. The post holder will be encouraged to take a key role in the formulation and delivery of Diocesan education policy and practice

Key responsibilities

* To be a focus for leading developments in teaching and learning in RVE and Collective Worship for all Diocesan Schools and in other schools as requested.
* To liaise with local, regional and national bodies in the development of RVE and Collective Worship including but not limited to SACRE/WASCRE, NAPfRE, GWELLA, Provincial DDEs, and the RVE and Christian ethos lead for the Church in Wales.
* To advise on the provision of resources, programmes and schemes of work, to ensure that all Diocesan schools have the best access to high-quality RVE and provision.
* To monitor RVE and Collective Worship in Church schools through the co-ordination and maintenance of the Diocesan Bishop's Visitor Scheme and to report to the Diocesan Head of Education, DBSE Members, Officers and others as required.
* To use monitoring of performance in RVE and Collective Worship to inform continuous improvement in schools by the provision of high-quality training in RVE.
* To plan, facilitate or deliver school-based and Diocesan programmes of training and development in RVE and Collective Worship.
* To research and disseminate ideas and practicalities around a Christian perspective to the whole-school curriculum, to ensure a consistency with our Christian Anglican ethos.
* To support the Section 50 process and to follow the Diocesan and provincial protocol for church school inspections.
* To take a lead role in training schools in preparation for, and follow up to inspections.
* To take a lead with appointed DBSE members to deliver and develop appropriate targets in the current DBSE Strategy.
* To stand in for Head of education at meetings as needed

Qualifications

* Qualified Teacher Status and substantial background in mainstream education, ideally in Church Schools.
