Who We Are

The award-winning Lee Valley Regional Park stretches an incredible 26 miles along the leafy banks of the River Lee, from Ware in Hertfordshire, through Essex, to the Thames at East India Dock Basin. The park provides a unique 'natural' corridor on London’s doorstep and provides a vital refuge for wildlife. It contains a variety of landscapes and open spaces to enjoy including the internationally important wetland sites that form the Lee Valley Special Protection Area and Ramsar site, Sites of Special Scientific Interest, industrial heritage sites, nature reserves and leisure venues.


What does the role look like

In this newly created role, you will work both independently and in association with colleagues across the Authority from our open spaces to venues teams

As an Arboricultural Officer, you will provide technical arboriculture support, work with colleagues to undertake survey and record all aspects of the tree stock to protect the natural landscape and maintain a safe environment for our visitors.

Carrying out and overseeing accurate tree inspections, you’ll diagnose and assess the impacts of injury, decay and structural defects. You’ll support the mitigation and management of pests and diseases and create a specific Tree management policy and strategy for the whole Park and feed into open space management plans and wider consultations. The role will be a teaching and guiding position to empower colleagues to undertake works on your behalf and to the betterment of their tree stock

As much of the Park is open 24/7 you will liaise with contractors to prioritise areas of risk ensuring that works are carried out in adherence with health and safety regulations, to specifications, on time and within budget. You will support others in undertaking roles to support the tree stocks.


What attributes we are looking for in a candidate

* We are looking for an enthusiastic, flexible, energetic and practical persona recognised post-A level qualification e.g. HND; NVQ level 3, degree or equivalent in Arboriculture.
* Hold a current LLANTRA professional tree inspection award and be Experienced in tree health risk and management of a wide range of trees.
* You will need to have proven experience of working in the conservation sector. An understanding of nature conservation issues, SSSI status and protected species legislation relating to Arboriculture and trees
* A good working knowledge of conservation, habitat management and wildlife legislation
* Experience of working with volunteers and local groups
* A full manual driving licence is essential
