Pets Choice Engineering Manager Job Description
Pets Choice is in a Transformation period having grown from SME to a larger sized business. We want to deliver a step change by recruiting motivated people who love a challenge, are keen to take ownership, and want to continue to develop within a fast growing business. Due to a number of CAPEX projects and investment plans, we are looking for an Engineering Manager to head up our Engineering and Maintenance department based at our manufacturing sites in Blackburn.
Responsibilities:
1. Reporting to the Head of Manufacturing
2. Working within a FMCG Food Manufacturing environment, responsible for the Engineering and Maintenance function for Pets Choice
3. Lead the Engineering and Maintenance Team working across our Blackburn manufacturing sites
4. Provide key ‘process control’ fault finding, code diagnosis and general all-round PLC knowledge skills
5. Support and lead CAPEX projects
6. Deploy and execute the preventative maintenance strategy for the site
7. Work with Stores and Procurement to ensure the supply of appropriate machine parts
8. Minimise machine downtime
9. Continuous improvement, implementing process where necessary
10. Coach, train and cross train team members
11. Hands on when required and lead the team to carry out preventative maintenance, fault find and deal with machine down-time efficiently
12. Lead the team to action repairs and ensure that all measures taken are recorded so recurrent faults can be recognised
13. Electrical and mechanical proactive and re-active maintenance
14. Troubleshooting and identification of equipment problems
15. Build and maintain relationships with Production and foster a good team environment when working on the equipment
16. Write SOP’s and other technical documents in support of the engineering and maintenance department as well as end users
17. Continually develop your skills and knowledge
18. Comply with all health, safety and environmental policies and procedures
Qualifications and Skills Required:
Ability to lead, coach and train, high energy and team engagement
Strong Electrical and Mechanical knowledge and ability on Food processing machinery
Excellent process control knowledge. Able to fault diagnose multiple PLC platforms and generate and develop their own Code
Competent in building electrical control systems from switchgear through to software implementation
Engineering apprenticeship and associated qualifications such as BTEC ONC, HNC, HND in Electrical Engineering is essential
Ideally, IEE qualification up to 17th edition Wiring Regulations
Have a proven track record in an Engineering and fault-finding role gained from within a FMCG environment (Ideally Food Manufacturing industry)
Have a good understanding of HACCP, COSHH and GMP principles
You will also possess excellent communication skills, demonstrate assertiveness and decision-making skills and have a positive attitude to your work
Drive Root Cause Analysis and strive to prevent re-occurrence with counter measures
CMMS experience and knowledge
Driven to deliver solutions, ideas and innovations in a positive and pragmatic way
Passionate about quality and best practice whilst driving continuous improvement
Working knowledge of internal H&S audits and processes
Adaptable to change
