Anaesthetic practitioner
One Hatfield Hospital has a fantastic opportunity for an experienced anaesthetic practitioner to join our friendly and efficient theatre team to ensure a high standard of individualised patient care and safety. This may include working as a Surgical First Assistant and/or Scrub practitioner.
Hours: per week, Monday to Friday with some Saturday shifts as required.
Salary : Equivalent to NHS AfC Band 5/6 dependent on skillset and experience
Main duties of the job
1. Support the Theatre team in the care of patients before and during surgery
2. Provide a comprehensive handover at the change of shift to colleagues
3. Undertake all safety checks to a high standard, documenting as per procedure
4. Assess patient care requirements, implementing and evaluating outcomes
5. Ensure the highest standards of infection prevention and control
6. Ensure that all documentation relating to patient care is within the boundaries of the national and hospital guidelines for good record-keeping
7. Ensure that all incidents, accidents, and near misses are appropriately recorded and reported. Participate in investigations and implement changes to practice
8. Ensure that own practice and the practice of others is within an ethical and legal framework.
9. Proactively participate in capturing revenue
10. Understand the Clinical Governance process and actively participate in all processes.
11. Ensure adequate stock levels are maintained.
12. Support with mentoring junior members of the team, assessing competencies, as well as supporting and identifying individual training needs.
13. Support new business initiatives and assist with their implementation
14. Provide clinical expertise
15. Take the lead in your clinical area for assigned cases, organising activities, and ensuring maintenance of a safe environment
16. Organise repairs and service contracts for technical equipment
17. Ensure audits are undertaken and action plans put in place for improvement

Job responsibilities
Scrub:
18. Prepare all the necessary instruments, equipment, and other materials as required
19. Assist with minor surgical procedures within scope of practice
20. Act as a link between the surgical team and other parts of the theatre and hospital
Recovery:
21. Offer the patient care and support upon arrival in Recovery
22. Undertake patient observations, monitoring their condition
23. Provide appropriate care and treatment until the patient has recovered
24. From the effects of the anaesthesia and/or surgery
25. Assess the patient to ensure they can be discharged back to the Ward

26. A minimum of 2 years Clinical experience as an anaesthetic, scrub, or recovery Theatre Practitioner.
27. Evidence of continuous professional development and its application
Qualifications
Essential
28. Registered Operating Department Practitioner with HCPC
29. or
30. Registered General Nurse with NMC
