You'll be joining the Operations team responsible for maintaining essential plumbing, heating, and mechanical services across a secure site in Woodbridge. Working closely with the Mechanical Supervisor, you'll play a key role in ensuring the estate remains safe, compliant, and fully operational.
Your new role
As a Plumber / Mechanical Engineer (Level 2), you will deliver both planned and reactive maintenance to a range of mechanical and plumbing systems. Your work will include installations, testing, commissioning, repairs, and fault finding across heating and water services.You will also carry out survey inspections-including confined space and working-at-height tasks-maintaining accurate logs and service records. The role requires supervision of prisoners during work activities, contractor escorting, and compliance with site security and Health & Safety procedures.
Key responsibilities
Carry out plumbing/mechanical installations, testing, commissioning, and repairs.
Deliver planned maintenance and respond to reactive tasks via the CAFM system.
Prioritise workload in line with site procedures and escalate issues when needed.
Supervise prisoners during work and training activities.
Conduct quality control inspections and maintain accurate records/logs.
Manage and request stock/materials, ensuring all items are fit for purpose.
Escort technical contractors in line with the Local Security Strategy (LSS).
Maintain regular radio communication following security protocols.
Drive estates vehicles or operate plant equipment (if qualified).
Perform locking duties where required.
Support urgent or emergency works safely and within required timescales.
Contribute to safe working practices, tool control, and procedural consistency.
Promote a positive customer service culture and maintain strong client relationships.
Undertake Fire Warden or First Aider duties if appointed.What you'll need to succeed
Essential:
NVQ Level 2 in Plumbing or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)
G3 Unvented Hot Water Qualification (training can be provided)Desirable:
Experience in building services, Hard FM, or plumbing environments
Knowledge of Water Supply Regulations
Awareness of Legionella L8 requirements (training available)
Experience with commercial or industrial heating/water systems
Working knowledge of planned preventative maintenanceBehaviours
