Joseph Gallagher Limited is a leading civil engineering and construction business operating across the UK and internationally. We are looking for a practical, hands-on Mechanical Fitter Apprentice to join our team and develop a career maintaining and repairing plant, machinery, and mechanical equipment.
This role offers the opportunity to gain real-world engineering experience while completing a Level 3 /6 Mechanical Fitter / Engineering Technician Apprenticeship.
About the Apprenticeship
You will be enrolled on a Level 3/6 Engineering Technician Apprenticeship (Mechanical Pathway), a nationally recognised qualification designed for those starting a career in mechanical engineering. The programme combines off-the-job training with hands-on site and workshop experience.
About the Role
As a Mechanical Fitter Apprentice, you will work alongside experienced engineers and fitters to support the maintenance, repair, and installation of mechanical equipment and plant used across civil engineering projects.
Key Responsibilities
1. Assisting with the maintenance and repair of plant, machinery, and mechanical systems
2. Supporting fault finding and breakdown repairs
3. Assisting with inspections, servicing, and preventative maintenance
4. Learning to read and follow engineering drawings and manuals
5. Using hand tools, power tools, and workshop equipment safely
6. Supporting equipment installations and modifications
7. Maintaining accurate maintenance records
8. Following health & safety procedures at all times
About You
We’re looking for someone who enjoys practical, hands-on work and wants to build a long-term career in mechanical engineering.
You will ideally have:
9. A strong interest in mechanical engineering or plant maintenance
10. A practical mindset and willingness to learn
11. Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail
12. A strong commitment to health and safety
13. GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths (or willingness to work towards them)
14. A positive attitude and strong work ethic
No previous mechanical experience is required — just enthusiasm, reliability, and a desire to learn.
