The Opportunity
We are seeking a Financial Assessment Officer to support Adult Social Care services across Residential and Community Care. Youll play a vital role in ensuring fair, accurate, and legally compliant financial assessments under the Care Act 2014, while delivering a professional, empathetic service to service users and carers.
This role suits candidates with experience in:
Adult Social Care finance
Welfare benefits and income maximisation
Customer-facing financial assessment roles
Local authority or public sector environments
Key Responsibilities
Complete financial assessments and reassessments for Adult Social Care service users (home visits, telephone, and correspondence)
Assess Disability Related Expenditure (DRE) and investigate property and Deferred Payment eligibility
Provide welfare benefits advice to maximise income for service users and the Organization
Act as a key point of contact for financial assessment queries from service users and colleagues
Work closely with Social Care teams, including within hospital settings
Identify, investigate, and escalate safeguarding concerns where appropriate
Maintain accurate case notes and financial data to a high standard
Support system improvements, testing, and staff training
Mentor Apprentices and Assistants and contribute to service improvement projects
What Were Looking For
Essential Skills & Experience
Strong numeracy and literacy skills
Experience in a customer-focused, fast-paced environment
Ability to handle sensitive conversations with vulnerable adults and carers
Confident communicator (written and verbal) with negotiation and influencing skills
Experience managing your own workload and meeting deadlines
Understanding of safeguarding principles
GCSEs / NVQ Level 2 (or equivalent experience)
Full UK Driving Licence
Desirable
Knowledge of the Care Act 2014 and Welfare Benefits legislation
Experience within Adult Social Care or Local Authority services
Competence using Office 365 (Teams, OneDrive, Outlook)
