About the team

EHC coordinators are aligned to one of several functional teams, and we have an opportunity for you to specialise in:

* Services for Young People: responsible for young people aged 16 and over with an EHCP, attending college or other further education settings, completing an apprenticeship, in training or supported internship, or not in education, employment, or training. Also supporting care leavers aged 18 and over with an EHCP.


About the role

The Education Health & Care Coordinator (EHC Coordinator) role is highly process-driven. It involves managing and processing EHC plans within a complex legal framework to tight timescales. The role includes implementing legal requirements, reviewing documents meticulously, and creating, reviewing, and amending plans. Communication with practitioners, parents, and carers is primarily related to statutory processes, with minimal direct interaction with children or young people.

As an EHC Coordinator, you'll deliver casework that coordinates professionals across education, health, and care sectors to deliver EHC assessments, plans, and reviews on time and to a high standard, focusing on improving outcomes for children and young people. Responsibilities include:

1. Developing high standards of achievement and inclusion for children and young people with SEN through effective casework within the council's policy and budget framework, with a focus on preparing for adulthood from early ages.
2. Preparing information for parents, children, young people, and schools, ensuring it is timely, clear, and engaging.
3. Managing and processing statutory casework within legal and internal timelines.
4. Collaborating with professionals across education, health, and care services.
5. Ensuring effective case management, integrated working practices, and successful outcomes.
6. Participating in resource decisions, including chairing or attending panel meetings, ensuring alignment with policies and eligibility criteria.
7. Representing Children's Services at reviews, chairing meetings, and participating in multi-agency discussions as needed.
8. Contributing to policy development, maintaining knowledge of legislation and policies, and supporting team induction and training.
9. Maintaining accurate records and participating in monitoring and quality assurance systems.
10. Experience working with post-16 SEND young people in colleges.

Qualifications and skills required:

* Educated to A level or equivalent.
* Ability to negotiate with providers.
* Excellent communication skills.
* Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
* High literacy level for case recording and plan quality.
* Current driving license and access to a vehicle for work.

Desirable:

* Previous casework management experience.
* This role requires a Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check.
* Must be able to drive and travel around Hertfordshire using personal or company transport.
* English fluency is essential; provision of sign language interpretation may be required.
