About The Role Drax Unit 1 Outage - Riggers Job Summary Riggers support the safe and effective maintenance outage of Unit 1 at the Drax Power Station. These workers lift, move, install and secure heavy equipment and components. Riggers follow instructions, comply with safety protocols, and use lifting gear and machinery to complete outage tasks efficiently. Main Duties Assess, prepare and rig loads for lifting and moving within the outage area. Inspect, select and use lifting equipment such as slings, hoists, shackles, ropes, pulleys and cranes. Move turbines, generators, valves and other mechanical components. Interpret lifting plans, technical drawings and work instructions. Guide crane and equipment operators using hand signals or radio communication. Check the area for hazards and remove obstructions before moving loads. Install and dismantle temporary structures and lifting frameworks when required. Confirm load weights and balance loads for safe lifting and placement. Inspect lifting gear and equipment for wear and report any defects. Observe all health and safety requirements and report incidents without delay. Work alongside engineers, supervisors and other trades on site. Keep the work area clean and organised. Required Qualifications Proven experience as a rigger, preferably in heavy industrial or power station environments. Formal rigging qualification from a recognised authority. Demonstrated knowledge of load weights, balance and safe lifting practices. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and lifting plans. Physical strength, stamina and the ability to work at height or in confined spaces. Strong communication and teamwork skills. Commitment to safe working practices and strict procedures. Flexibility to work outdoors, in variable weather and on shift patterns as required. Valid site safety induction card or clearance to work on a power generation site.
