Job Description
This role is categorized as hybrid, requiring the successful candidate to report to Concord, NC three times per week. Due to live race events on weekends, flexibility in work schedule is necessary.
The Role
We are seeking a Motorsports Sportscar Data Analyst to apply data science and modeling techniques to develop and refine race strategy tools, aiding pre-race planning and real-time decision making during race events.
What You’ll Do
* Refine existing AI/ML models for Sportscars, improving Python codebases and reimagining models when needed.
* Develop platforms for Monte Carlo simulations.
* Create tire degradation models, optimizing parameters for accurate predictions.
* Design visualizations to effectively communicate insights, prototyping and collaborating with IT and software teams for deployment.
* Use race strategy tools to verify and enhance performance, working with IMSA and WEC teams.
* Analyze vehicle pace, track migration, traffic, energy strategies, and tire and fuel effects.
* Predict pace variations to inform race and session strategies.
* Collaborate across GM and sponsored motorsports teams to develop and support race strategy tools.
* Co-develop race strategy software with data science and IT teams.
* Apply analysis techniques across different racing series for process validation and model refinement.
Additional Job Description
What You’ll Need (Required Qualifications)
* Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Data Science, or related field.
* 5+ years in top-level motorsports series (NASCAR, IMSA, F1, IndyCar, WEC, etc.), with 2+ years developing strategy tools.
* Knowledge of motorsports race strategy tools and analysis during live races.
* Proficiency in Python, MATLAB, or similar.
* Familiarity with AI/ML modeling techniques.
* Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and forward-thinking.
* Excellent interpersonal skills, relationship-building, and patience for mentoring.
* Ability to travel within the US (~10%).
Preferred Qualifications
* Master’s degree in a related quantitative field.
* Experience in tire modeling, simulation workflows, machine learning libraries, and big data tools (Hadoop, Spark, SQL, NoSQL).
