We have an opportunity for a Specialty Doctor of Psychiatry to join our team at the Langford Centre.
The Langford Centre provides Low Secure, High Dependency Inpatient Rehabilitation, and Acute services across 6 wards. We support our patients from admission to engage in their recovery pathway and promote successful reintegration into the community.
As a Specialty Doctor of Psychiatry, you will be responsible for providing comprehensive medical and psychiatric care to patients within your ward. The role primarily focuses on acute medical and psychiatric issues, including completing assessments, conducting daily handovers, and ward rounds to address patient needs promptly.
You will be required to work late evenings once a week until 10 pm to cover late admissions.
Duties of the Specialty Doctor of Psychiatry include:
* Attend daily morning handovers and complete ward rounds to address acute medical/psychiatric issues.
* Manage the mental health needs of patients as per care plans and clinical needs, including:
o Physical and mental state examinations within 24 hours of admission.
o Weekly mental state assessments for recently admitted patients until stabilized.
o Fortnightly mental state examinations for stable patients.
* Discuss deviations from minimum standards with the responsible clinician.
* Provide physical healthcare, primarily via external GP facilities, with occasional acute needs requiring your input.
* Be the first point of contact during the day for concerns about patients' physical health.
* Work closely with GP surgeries, ensuring accurate recording of blood and clinical results in patient notes.
* Maintain up-to-date physical healthcare summaries for ward rounds.
* Monitor and update prescription cards in collaboration with ward managers and responsible clinicians.
* Attend all CPAs and tribunals for non-forensic patients.
* Participate in ward rounds and MDT meetings, including CPAs, MHRTs, and Section 117 meetings, ensuring comprehensive and current clinical information.
* Prepare CPA and MHA reports under supervision where appropriate.
* Write and send discharge summaries, including medication history and physical healthcare summaries.
* Assess new patients and document findings on admission, referring to pre-admission reports.
* Act as nominated deputy under the Mental Health Act if the Lead Consultant Psychiatrist is unavailable.
* Participate in treatment planning and therapeutic programs.
Requirements of the Successful Specialty Doctor include:
* MBBS or equivalent
* MRCPsych or equivalent
* Ability to work effectively within a team
* Good interpersonal and communication skills
