West Berkshire Council is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Rights of Way Ranger to join our Countryside team. You will support the Rights of Way Officer in the management and conservation of our extensive network of rights of way and help maintain and enhance public access to the countryside in West Berkshire.
Responsibilities
* Work alongside the Rights of Way Officer to implement management plans for the maintenance and improvement of rights of way.
* Conduct regular inspections of rights of way, identifying issues such as obstructions, surface deterioration, and signage needs.
* Carry out routine maintenance work, including clearing vegetation, repairing surfaces, and installing/removing signs and barriers.
* Engage with landowners, members of the public, and volunteer groups to promote and facilitate rights of way maintenance and improvement activities.
* Assist with the investigation of rights of way enquiries and provide advice to the public.
* Support the Rights of Way Officer in responding to applications, orders, and appeals.
* Contribute to awareness-raising activities and educational initiatives regarding the importance of rights of way and responsible countryside access.
Qualifications and Skills
* Understanding of rights of way legislation, management, and maintenance practices.
* Practical experience in countryside management, ideally with a focus on rights of way.
* Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with a range of stakeholders.
* Self-motivated and able to work independently as well as part of a team.
* Organised and able to prioritise tasks to ensure timely completion of maintenance and improvement work.
* A full driving licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes.
* Experience in working with volunteers would be advantageous.
