Locum Consultant in Gastroenterology. Fixed term contract for 12 months. The Endoscopy Unit at Darent Valley Hospital is a purpose-built three-room Endoscopy Unit with modern equipment for cleaning and sterilisation on site. A second unit is being opened, providing an additional two scope rooms. Endoscopes are Olympus Endoscopes (290 series and 1500 series) with new stacks, two screens for viewing, and an integrated colonoscopy scope guide feature. CO2 insufflation is available and ERBE diathermy with access to APC. Darent Valley Hospital is an accredited BCSP site. A trans-nasal service using 190 Olympus scopes has been introduced. Main duties / Responsibilities
This is a new post and the appointee will join a team of Gastroenterologists. The team currently consists of eight permanent Consultants and one long-term locum. The Gastroenterology team provides both inpatient and outpatient care. The appointee will take part in the on-call rota for the Upper GI bleed (1 in 8). The Gastroenterology team does not do GIM at DVH. The post focuses on general gastroenterology, with flexibility to support and develop any sub-specialty interests the successful applicant may wish to maintain. An interest in Nutrition and Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) is particularly desirable. Skills in advanced endoscopy, including ERCP and EUS, would be advantageous. About Us

A formal Job Plan will be agreed between the appointee and their Clinical Director (on behalf of the Medical Director) within three months of the start date. The Job Plan will be signed by the Clinical Director and will be effective from the appointment date.
