Offer description

This vacancy is only available for applications from existing Internal Plymouth City Council employees and Agency Workers who are in an active placement and have 12 weeks continuous service within Children’s Services. Applications submitted by external candidates who do not meet this criteria will not be considered and will be rejected.

We are seeking a motivated and experienced practitioner to join our Edge of Care service as an Assistant Team Manager. This is a key leadership role supporting the delivery of intensive intervention services for children and young people who are at risk of entering care, or where there is a significant risk of family breakdown.

About The Role

As an Assistant Team Manager, you will work closely with the Team Manager to provide day‑to‑day operational leadership within the service. You will help ensure high‑quality, consistent and timely interventions are delivered to families, with a strong focus on preventing escalation into care wherever safely possible.

You will support a skilled team of practitioners delivering direct work with children, young people, and their families, often in complex and fast‑paced situations. The role requires a balance of management oversight, direct practice involvement, and multi‑agency coordination.

Key Responsibilities

* Supporting the Team Manager in the operational running of the Edge of Care service
* Providing supervision, guidance, and oversight to practitioners within the team
* Ensuring timely and effective intervention plans are in place for families at risk of breakdown
* Supporting robust risk assessment and decision‑making in complex safeguarding situations
* Working collaboratively with social care teams, schools, health services, and other partners
* Contributing to the development and delivery of intensive support plans for families
* Ensuring high standards of recording, case management, and compliance with statutory guidance
* Deputising for the Team Manager when required
* Supporting performance management, quality assurance, and service improvement activity
* Promoting reflective practice and a strengths‑based, family‑focused approach

About You

You will be an experienced practitioner with a strong background in working with children and families, particularly those with complex needs and safeguarding concerns. You will have a sound understanding of edge of care and contextual safeguarding approaches, alongside experience of multi‑agency working.

You will be confident in making informed, risk‑based decisions, supervising staff, and supporting positive outcomes for children and families under pressure.

What We Offer

* A supportive and experienced management structure
* Opportunities for professional development and progression
* Regular supervision and reflective practice
* A committed and collaborative multi‑agency environment
* The opportunity to make a meaningful impact on preventing children entering care

This is a challenging but highly rewarding role for someone who is passionate about keeping families together safely and improving outcomes for children and young people.

Closing Date: Sunday 17 May
