We are looking for an ambitious and experienced individual to lead our non‑medical cataract service at Torbay Hospital.
Main duties of the job
 * Have clinical responsibility and act as the lead of the Non‑Medical Cataract Service, ensuring that the optometry service aligns with the ophthalmology strategy.
 * Provide education, audit, research and clinical governance as required by the ophthalmology service.
 * Support other sub‑specialities within the ophthalmology department as needed.
 * Possess relevant postgraduate professional specialist qualifications (e.g., Independent Prescribing, College of Optometrists higher qualifications, OPT advanced practitioner qualifications) or demonstrate consistent training and experience.

We are a forward‑thinking, ambitious and well‑supported department with a successful team of highly trained orthoptists and optometrists working in extended roles across glaucoma, medical retina, diabetic retina, cornea and anterior segment, paediatric ophthalmology, stroke, adults and children with learning difficulties, low vision, contact lens, Marfan’s screening, keratoconus/ectasia virtual monitoring.

Essential qualifications
 * BSc Optometry
 * MSc/Level 7 Postgraduate qualification in Optometry and/or MSc/Level 7 Ophthalmic qualification in extended ophthalmic role
 * Postgraduate certificate in Independent Prescribing
Desirable qualifications
 * Teaching qualification
 * Leadership or management qualification
Essential experience
 * Extensive post‑registration hospital clinical optometry experience including cataract
 * Teaching experience
 * Experience working with adults who are visually impaired and patients with learning disabilities
Desirable experience
 * Experience of clinical leadership
 * Experience developing policies, protocols and competencies
