This is a senior medical leadership role created to strengthen clinical leadership at New Addington Group Practice with a specific mandate to drive measurable improvements in patient access practice efficiency and clinical team development This role combines executive clinical leadership with a defined personal clinical commitment ensuring the postholders strategic decision making remains grounded in the day to day reality of serving New Addingtons patient population This role sits above and is distinct from the Clinical Lead GP role which retains responsibility for day to day clinical operations The Medical Director will provide strategic clinical oversight at practice level managing risk at a senior level working in close partnership with the Executive GP Partners CEO Operations Director Clinical Lead and Practice Manager They will carry the authority of a Medical Director accountable for clinical governance quality standards and medical team performance while maintaining a focused programme of work on access and patient experience including delivery of the Modern General Practice model and Bourne Healths digital front door methodology representing the practice externally and developing the clinical team as a whole As part of the wider Bourne Health clinical leadership community serving patients across multiple South London sites the postholder may also be asked to contribute to broader organisational priorities as reasonably requested Main duties of the job
Provide strategic clinical leadership and governance oversight, ensuring compliance with CQC standards, NHS regulations, and clinical best practice. Lead on safeguarding, risk management, prescribing quality, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives. Oversee QOF, IIF, and enhanced service performance to support high-quality patient care and operational delivery. Lead and improve the practices patient access strategy through effective triage systems, digital pathways, and referral processes to enhance patient experience, appointment availability, and service efficiency. Monitor access performance and work collaboratively with senior leaders to address operational challenges. Represent the practice within PCN, ICB, and wider NHS forums, contributing to transformation programmes and strategic objectives. Provide leadership and mentorship to multidisciplinary clinical teams, supporting workforce development, recruitment, training, and integrated care delivery. Clinical Governance Quality Act as the named clinical governance lead for New Addington Group Practice ensuring all clinical systems and processes meet CQC Well led standards Chair clinical governance meetings including significant event analysis clinical audit and mortality and morbidity review Oversee clinical risk management including incident reporting infection control and safeguarding processes empowering and directing the team to deliver on these areas Ensure prescribing is evidence based aligned with local formularies and NICE guidance and subject to regular review Drive QOF IIF and enhanced service performance setting targets monitoring delivery and supporting the clinical team to achieve them Ensure clinical compliance with all national and local regulatory frameworks including CQC registration requirements where applicable Promote a culture of continuous improvement clinical learning and psychological safety within the clinical team Access Strategy Patient Experience Lead the design and delivery of the practices patient access strategy ensuring full delivery of the Modern General Practice model and embedding Bourne Healths digital front door methodology across all patient pathways Work with the Operations Director and Clinical Lead to identify and address access bottlenecks long waits and patient experience failures Develop and implement clinical triage models online consultation pathways and extended access arrangements that improve access for all patient cohorts Ensure full utilisation and optimisation of community referrals including CDC services at New Addington Pharmacy First and VCFSE partners Monitor and report on access performance metrics including appointment availability response times and patient satisfaction scores Engage with the PCN and ICB to align access improvement with neighbourhood health priorities and commissioner expectations Strategic System Leadership Represent the practice and Bourne Health in local system forums including PCN clinical leadership meetings ICB engagement and NHS Neighbourhood Health Programme discussions Contribute to Bourne Healths wider strategic agenda including clinical quality excellence growth and neighbourhood health positioning as requested by the CEO and or Executive Partners Build and maintain productive relationships with NHS Trust partners Croydon Health Services NHS Trust community health providers and local authority stakeholders Support the development and delivery of locally commissioned services and primary care transformation programmes Maintain awareness of national NHS policy developments and translate their implications for the practice and wider organisation Provide clinical leadership supervision and mentorship to all clinical staff including GPs GP trainees nurses pharmacists and AHPs Work closely with the Director of Pharmacy to develop the AHP team supporting integrated care delivery and maximising ARRS role utilisation Support the Clinical Lead with workforce planning clinical recruitment and the onboarding and induction of new clinical staff Support the Clinical Lead with performance management and professional development for clinical team members working within Bourne Healths HR frameworks and competency matrix Maintain and develop training practice status including supporting the Clinical Lead with GP trainer accreditation and oversight of GP trainees and medical students Champion a positive inclusive and high performing team culture within the workforce Work in partnership with the Operations Director Clinical Lead and Practice Manager to optimise clinical workflow staffing rotas and resource utilisation Support the development and delivery of the practices business plan including income generation through QOF LCS and enhanced services Ensure business continuity and clinical resilience including contingency planning for rota gaps and service disruptions Contribute to financial sustainability by reducing unnecessary clinical variation over investigation and avoidable secondary care referrals Clinical Practice Undertake a defined number of clinical sessions per week as agreed with the Executive GP Partners providing high quality patient centred GP care in accordance with the practice contract Sessions will span triage workflow management pathology and letters telephone consultations and face to face appointments This ensures the postholder maintains a clear and current understanding of the patient population grounding strategic decision making in clinical reality The session commitment and rota pattern will be reviewed periodically and may be adjusted in response to patient access demand practice need or operational requirements including redeployment across session types The postholder is expected to flex their clinical contribution accordingly Contribute to duty triage and paperwork responsibilities on a rota basis The rota will be agreed in consultation with the Executive GP Partners and Operations Director and may be revised to meet access requirements staffing levels or changes in practice demand Act as a role model for clinical excellence including thorough history taking evidence based prescribing and appropriate onward referral Maintain contemporaneous and accurate clinical records in line with information governance requirements Person Specification

Full GMC registration with licence to practise Inclusion on NHS Performers List (with no restrictions on practice) MRCGP or equivalent (CCT in General Practice) Enhanced DBS clearance Postgraduate qualification in medical leadership or management (e.g. PGCME, MBA) GP Trainer or willingness to work towards trainer accreditation Experience
