Job Description

Service Care Solutions are looking for a Project Worker to work within The Manchester College on a contract basis.

Location: Manchester

Job role/responsibilities:
The role is based within the Foundation Learning Department at Manchester College, in partnership with Manchester Secondary Pupil Referral Unit (PRU). The Project Worker plays a pivotal role in supporting the educational and personal development of young people who are excluded or at risk of exclusion from mainstream education.

1. As directed by the Alternative Provision Coordinator, the Project Worker will identify, assess, and meet the support needs of students to ensure that equal access to high quality education is achieved.
2. Work collaboratively with staff, including teachers, support workers, schools, and external agencies, to provide comprehensive support to students.
3. Liaise with colleagues, parents, and other professionals regarding the academic and personal development of students.
4. Maintain clear and effective communication with parents/carers, keeping them informed of student progress and any concerns.
5. Create realistic and SMART targets relating to attendance and punctuality.
6. Maintain accurate records of student progress, behaviour, and attendance, documenting observations, interventions, and outcomes.
7. Utilise the college record keeping systems to provide regular feedback for students and parents/carers through written reports and review days.
8. Create and maintain a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment.
9. Supervise learners throughout the day, e.g. arrivals, departures, breaks, lunchtimes, and classroom support.
10. Ensure the safety and wellbeing of all students, adhering to safeguarding policies and procedures, and promoting a culture of vigilance and care.
11. Respond to crises or emergencies involving students, providing immediate support and following established protocols for safeguarding and intervention.

Knowledge/experience required:

12. Relevant appropriate experience working in a youth related environment.
13. Significant experience of working with school-age learners.
14. Previous experience of working with emotional regulation and with positive behaviour/de-escalation strategies.
15. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
16. Strong organisational skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
17. Flexibility and adaptability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
18. Ability to work effectively as part of a team and support a culture of teamwork within a multidisciplinary environment.
19. Proficient IT skills and a solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
20. A commitment to promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion.
21. Awareness of cultural diversity and proficiency in cultural competence to effectively engage with students from diverse backgrounds and communities.
