Job overview
We are inviting candidates to be part of our Anaesthetic team at Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, working at Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital, Basingstoke.
This post is central to delivering effective patient care at Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The post will be primarily based in Basingstoke but you may be asked to attend other sites as required. The post will be involved in all aspects of diagnosis and treatment of patients. The post holder would be on the resident 1 st on call rota working in theatres and supporting in Critical Care.
Main duties of the job
A formal job plan will be agreed between the appointee and the clinical supervisor. The clinical duties will include those normally expected of a CT2 trainee in an Anaesthetic Department of any general hospital in the United Kingdom. Resident on-call availability is required. The regular on-call commitment is 1:8 on a full shift rota. The weekend component of this rota is 1:8 long days and 1:8 nights. Prospective cover for colleagues’ annual leave is required. There is potential for working more or less than this to suit individual circumstances.
Duties include being part of the 1st on call rota, when you will be covering theatres and the Critical Care Unit. Critical Care duties include handover regular ward rounds and assessment of critically unwell patients in A&E and on the wards. This is supported by a consultant in intensive care and consultant general anaesthetist, both non-resident. The majority of clinical work will be in BNHH main theatres or Day Treatment Centre, anaesthetising for a variety of surgical specialties. There is opportunity to develop confidence anaesthetising for major surgical cases or particular sub-specialties, under consultant supervision.

Person specification
Professional Qualifications
* BM or equivalent
* Licence to practice and full registration with GMC
* Basic Level Training Certificate (BLTC) in anaesthesia
* Passed Primary FRCA
* Passed Final FRCA
* Life support course instructor
* Research experience and publications in peer reviewed journals
Clinical Experience
* 24 months experience in Anaesthetics and Intensive Care medicine from a UK core training programme (or equivalent)
* An ability to cover Intensive Care and General Anaesthetic duties in both the elective and emergency setting
* Worked in the UK's NHS
* Taught on life support or deteriorating patient courses (e.g. ALERT course)
* Experience in obstetric anaesthesia
Clinical Skills and Ability
* Punctual and reliable
* Ability to establish and maintain good professional relations with others
* Manual dexterity performing clinical procedures
* Teaching skills
Orther Specific requirements
* Physically and mentally fit with satisfactory occupational health clearence
