As a Pre-Assessment Nurse, you will be responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of Pre-assessment Services within the Surgical Division.
You will provide clinical and managerial leadership for nursing and support staff across the unit, ensuring equity of service. Collaboration with the Band 6 nursing team and Clinical Operations Manager is essential to ensure patients receive safe and effective care.

Key responsibilities include:
1. Ensuring patients are triaged, assessed, and have a clear management plan in place, maintaining patient safety.
2. Supporting the nursing team daily to deliver care to a high standard, individualized and compassionate.
3. Acting as a clinical role model, enhancing clinical expertise and practice.
4. Delegating work appropriately and supervising/knowledge sharing with junior staff.
5. Assessing patients requiring surgery, including complex assessments, confidently and safely.
6. Working closely with Senior Anaesthetic colleagues to review patients post-Pre-Assessment using clinical knowledge.
7. Supporting patient optimization prior to surgery, liaising with primary care and hospital specialties, and signposting to available services.
8. Collaborating with the Band 6 nursing team to meet local, divisional, and Trust objectives, including treatment, recovery targets, and minimizing cancellations.
9. Ensuring prophylactic and optimization treatments are provided, maintaining PGDs to support this.

1. Providing leadership and guidance on operational and professional issues, enhancing clinical expertise.
2. Supporting the clinical coordinator in ensuring smooth and effective pre-assessment services.
3. Performing cardiovascular and respiratory assessments.
4. Recognizing changes in patient condition requiring intervention and referring appropriately.
5. Working with Senior Anaesthetists in clinic and virtually to ensure comprehensive assessments and investigations.
6. Supporting patient optimization and liaising with primary and secondary care to ensure safety and fitness for surgery.
7. Maintaining high standards of nursing care and acting when standards are not met.
8. Participating in service development, training, and education.
9. Leading the team to meet divisional and Trust objectives, including audit participation and practice improvement.
10. Supporting risk assessment, incident reporting, and promoting a no-blame culture.
11. Building effective communication within multidisciplinary teams and managing staff deployment based on skills and knowledge.
