The Assistant Quarry Manager will manage and be accountable for all operations on the Quarry and Asphalt Plant. Safety and operational standards are the fundamentals of the role, with cost control, people management, delivery to customer needs, and performance improvement being key. Managing plant compliance with business policies and procedures, and ensuring legislative compliance, are also important aspects of the role.
As Assistant Quarry Manager, you will also be responsible for:
1. Managing, coaching, and developing a highly skilled, motivated team to ensure business continuity and reduce risk.
2. Leading change and continuous improvement initiatives, maintaining stock management processes, and producing operational reports.
3. Understanding different methods of winning and extracting raw materials.
4. Knowledge of techniques for loading and transporting minerals, including feeding, crushing, screening, washing, separation, classification, and beneficiation.
5. Understanding Quarry Regulations 1999 for Reg 8.1d appointment.
6. Managing the budget for the Plant.
7. Maintaining and implementing Standard Operating Procedures, risk assessments, and staff training.
8. Overseeing the safe operation and maintenance of all site equipment, ensuring safety for all.
9. Reporting and investigating unsafe practices.
10. Issuing safety briefings and toolbox talks.
11. Managing mandatory and developmental staff training, maintaining an up-to-date training matrix.
12. Reporting on monthly KPIs and driving operational performance.
13. Ensuring contractor and visitor inductions are completed according to procedures.
14. Leading collaboration between different operational teams.
This role is primarily dayshift, Monday to Friday, with flexibility required to meet operational and customer needs.
We are seeking an experienced professional with proven quarrying or asphalt operations background. The ideal candidate will hold a Diploma in Quarry Technology or FdSc Extractives Technology, SHE NVQ Level 4/QCF Level 6, and preferably IOSH/NEBOSH qualifications. Strong IT skills, including SAP and Microsoft Office, and the ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to change, are essential.
