FT Speciality Dentist Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery - 1 year

We are looking for a committed and enthusiastic team‑player to cover 1 year fixed term maternity cover from 13 January 2026 by joining our busy, dynamic Maxillofacial Unit. This post covers Wednesday, Thursday and Friday as a Specialty Doctor post in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. The focus of this appointment will be to maintain the delivery of an oral maxillo facial clinic and treatment clinic service.
Main duties of the job
* Out‑patient OMFS clinic (new and follow‑up)
* Out‑patient Minor Oral Surgery
* In‑patient Emergency and Trauma Surgery on CEPOD
The post‑holder will join a well‑established team within the Maxillofacial Unit, where we provide a comprehensive Oral and Maxillofacial Surgical Service, including Head & Neck Cancer and orthognathic surgery. The post‑holder will be a qualified dentist with postgraduate experience in secondary care OMFS.

Job responsibilities
The post‑holder will be expected to work with consultant colleagues to provide a comprehensive oral surgery service. They will be expected to carry out common oral surgery procedures under LA without supervision. They will be expected to undertake emergency and trauma surgery. They will contribute to the supervision of junior staff within the department. They will contribute to clinical teaching within the department.
On Call Commitment: No regular on‑call commitment.

Person Specification
Experience/ Qualifications
* Full GDC registration with a licence to practice
* Four years post‑graduation, with two years in the relevant specialty
* Higher Degree
Clinical Skills and Experience
* Experienced in the diagnosis and management of all common oral surgical, oral medicine and head and neck skin conditions
* Experience of management of Oral and Maxillofacial trauma
Knowledge
* Breadth of experience in and outside specialty
Organisation and Planning
* Experience and ability to work in multi‑professional teams
* Understanding of: NHS / Clinical governance / Resource constraints
* Evidence of managerial skills: Achievements / Course attended
Teaching Skills
* Evidence of an interest and commitment to teaching
* Recognised teaching qualification
Academic and Research
* Evidence of participation in audit
* Evidence of managerial skills: Achievements / Course attended
