Job Summary
The Transport Manager oversees daily transport operations, fleet and driver management, and compliance with HSE and O' Licence regulations. This role ensures efficient scheduling, cost control and high service levels while maintaining compliance, safety, and operational efficiency across all transport activities.
Working hours 50 hours per week.
Responsibilities
* Ensure full compliance with H&S regulations, O' Licence requirements, driver hours, and roadworthiness standards across all transport operations.
* Develop and maintain an accurate record-keeping system.
* Oversee fleet operations and report to Senior Management and Operations Department on fleet performance and other operational requirements.
* Obtain and maintain truck licensing, registrations and permits.
* Ensure all vehicles are taxed.
* Ensure all vehicles have their annual service.
* Create reports from vehicle tracking programme Big Change.
* Plan organize and manage the work of workshop staff to ensure that the work is accomplished in a manner consistent with organizational requirements
* Ensure that 6 weekly checks are done.
* Oversee fuel usage maintain log and manage fuel cards.
* Collate daily defects and communicate them to workshop. Monitor progress.
* Oversee and schedule fleet maintenance and repairs
* Research parts availability and costing and create and maintain a preferred suppliers list.
* Approve the issuing of purchase orders
* Oversee proper maintenance of parts and other consumables inventory
* Manage tunnel tags and monitor usage
Skills
* Strong understanding of logistics, fleet management, and transport operations, ensuring efficiency and compliance.
* Knowledge of HSE regulations, CPC Level 3, National O' Licence requirements, and industry best practices.
* Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills to engage and manage teams effectively.
* Analytical and data-driven decision-making skills, using performance metrics to optimize efficiency and reduce costs.
* Ability to lead by example, fostering accountability, high performance, and a culture of continuous improvement.
* Proficiency in weighbridge operations, and fleet tracking systems
* Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple tasks, and adapt to operational challenges.
Experience and Qualifications
* Proven experience in transport or drainage management, preferably in a high-volume environment.
* Strong background in fleet and driver management, with National O' Licence compliance knowledge.
* CPC Level 3
* Experience in vehicle maintenance planning, regulatory compliance, and safety standards.
* Proficiency in transport planning and logistics coordination systems.
