Nuclear Restoration Services (NRS) is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) and is responsible for de‑commissioning the UK’s first generation nuclear power stations and associated research sites. NRS manages complex projects to safely and successfully manage the country’s civil nuclear legacy, delivering on an industry‑leading standard.


Pay Range

Base pay range is determined by skills and experience and discussed with your recruiter.


Project Overview

* Lead the Project Engineer responsibilities on the Hinkley Vault Retrieval Project – a large design and build contract requiring fitting heavy equipment into small spaces to retrieve and package legacy wastes.
* Design incorporates mechanical handling of heavy packages to tight tolerances, remote handling and sorting techniques, significant C & I integration, direct assay measurements, ventilation of heavily alpha‑contaminated air, and imparting large loads onto old structures.


Key Deliverables

* Identify project functional requirements and stakeholder needs. Monitor evidencing of technical requirements through design development.
* Oversee production of contractor deliverables to meet NRS requirements and maintain configuration control.
* Attend and contribute to design reviews and safety studies.
* Develop concept design and fit‑for‑purpose engineering solutions for NRS scope.
* Manage detailed design activities in accordance with design authority standards and CDM regulations.
* Prepare modification proposals and act as Nominated Responsible Engineer (NRE) for plant modifications.
* Provide technical supervision of commissioning and/or decommissioning.
* Support development of training packages for future plant operation and maintenance teams.
* Manage end‑of‑project hand‑over to systems/operations, ensuring all drawings, instructions and training are supplied as required.
* Demonstrate working knowledge of the CDM Regulation requirements on designers.
* Maintain site configuration control of appropriate documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
* Comply with all Environment, Health, Safety, Security and Quality policies, and support continuous improvement of safety, environment and quality on site.
* Review on‑site and off‑site events and root‑cause analysis to promote learning and improved practices.


Qualifications & Experience

* HNC, Engineering Degree or NQF Level 4 minimum (essential).
* Experience in a practicing disciplined engineering role (Mechanical, Electrical, C&I or Civil) on industrial plant (essential).
* Nuclear and/or conventional project engineering experience (essential).
* Understanding of relevant company and national engineering standards (essential).
* Working knowledge of Safety Rules and risk assessment methodology (desirable).
* Understanding of relevant Site Licence and Quality Management System requirements (desirable).
* Working knowledge of CDM Designer role (desirable).
