What's involved with this role: Hybrid Role Assistant Accountant JM BL 368516 TVP £20.07 per hour PAYE Contract Length: 5 months Location: Kidlington, Oxfordshire Candidates will need to go through Police Vetting is successful Our client is looking for an experienced finance professional who is ready to take the next step in their career, if you are an Assistant Accountant, you will be supporting the financial management and strategic delivery of a large, complex public sector organisation. This role offers a unique opportunity to work at the heart of a high-value budgetary environment, with responsibilities that will significantly influence financial performance and decision-making. Key Responsibilities: Support senior finance leaders in delivering accurate and timely financial management services aligned to strategic priorities. Play a key role in the production of the Medium-Term Financial Plan (MTFP), Capital Programme, and annual budgets. Produce monthly financial reports and costings for internal and external stakeholders. Monitor budgets and forecasts, identifying variances and proposing solutions. Ensure compliance with statutory financial requirements, accounting standards, and internal policies. Manage and maintain accurate financial records, including journals, virements, and invoices. Contribute to annual accounts close-down, grant returns, and income recovery processes. Deputise for senior finance staff in their absence. Act as financial lead on key projects and business cases. Maintain oversight of establishment budgets and produce detailed reports for senior leadership. Manage forecasting of police pay and allowances budgets (approx. £270 million). Essentials Requirements: Fully AAT qualified (or working towards) or Part-qualified in ACCA, CIMA or CIPFA (at least 2/3 of exam papers passed). Significant experience in a finance environment. Strong analytical skills with advanced Excel and data manipulation abilities. Excellent communication skills (written and verbal). Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to draft and present financial reports. Broader organisational understanding and experience in strategic financial planning.
