This is anexciting and unique opportunity for an enthusiastic clinician to join ourComplex Emotional Needs Pathway as a Trainee Mentalisation Based Therapistwithin Sequoia Therapeutic Community. Thispost will work within Sequoia as a community member contributing to thedelivery of therapy with the support of the Sequoia team.
Sequoiais AIMS accredited by the Royal College of Psychiatry and deliversMentalisation-Based Therapy in a structured 2 year (minimum) programme toadults with complex emotional needs.This is a highly rewarding role with opportunities for professionaldevelopment for a candidate who is skilled and passionate about developingevidence-based services for this client group.
Main duties of the job
To be an integralmember of the Complex Emotional Needs Pathway and to work directly into SequoiaTherapeutic Community delivering a range of therapies including small and largeexistential groups, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Mentalisation BasedTherapy (MBT). Sequoia TherapeuticCommunity provides a 2 year (minimum) structured therapy programme for adultswith a presentation consistent with the diagnostic criteria of EmotionallyUnstable Personality Disorder but not exclusive to this diagnosis.
We welcomeapplications from clinicians wanting to develop their career to become atherapist by providing Mentalisation Based Therapy training and opportunity towork towards accreditation as an MBT Therapist.

Job responsibilities
Workas a core member of the Complex Emotional Needs Service and directly intoSequoia Therapeutic Community.
Towork alongside clinicians within Sequoia Therapeutic Community to ensure thatthe treatment programme is delivered, monitored and evaluated, including groupwork as required.
Tobe committed to effective team working and to the coherent delivery of theevidence-based treatment model for Mentalisation Based Therapy (MBT).
Topromote a high standard of patient care.
Towork within the operational policies and the standards set out in the ComplexEmotional Needs Operational Policy and Sequoia Therapeutic Community Policy.
Participateas a member of the Multi-Disciplinary Team in the Complex Emotional NeedsService.
Todeliver all aspects of Sequoia Therapeutic Community and Mentalisation basedtherapy including; Dialectical Behaviour Therapy groups and experiential groupsto the highest quality and standards with available resources includingsupervision and consultation with Key Workers and other staff.
Havethe freedom to take action, advise and implement care planned therapy withinthe Complex Emotional Needs Service.
Providehigh level and complex professional clinical support, advice, guidance andinstruction as requested and required by the multi-disciplinary team.
Buildand maintain effective relationships with appropriate staff acrossorganisational boundaries as needed within the role.
Providedirect and indirect supervision to junior team members as needed.
Supportstaff on the management of complex cases as needed.
KEYRESPONSIBILITIES
1. Todemonstrate and promote Navigos values in everything you do in the workenvironment.
Toprovide specialist assessments of clients referred based upon the appropriateuse, interpretation and integration of complex data from a variety of sources,as required including, as appropriate, self-report measures, rating scales,direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews withclients, family members and others involved in the clients care wherenecessary.
Toformulate and implement plans for the formal psychological treatment and/ormanagement of a clients mental health problems, based upon an appropriateconceptual framework of the clients problems, and employing methods based uponevidence of efficacy.
Toevaluate and make decisions about treatment options in line with thetheoretical and therapeutic models and the highly complex factors concerninghistorical and developmental processes that have shaped the individual.
Tomanage an individual therapy case load that includes individual and group-basedtherapy.
Tocontribute directly and indirectly to a psychologically based framework ofunderstanding and care to the benefit of all clients of the service, across allsettings and agencies serving the client group.
Toundertake dynamic risk assessments and risk management for individual clientsas part of the multidisciplinary team and to provide advice to other servicesacross service lines on specialist risk assessment and risk management for thisclient group.
Tocommunicate in a skilled and sensitive manner, information concerning theassessment, formulation and treatment plans of clients under their care and tomonitor progress.
Toensure effective communication and share relevant information as required.
3. Deliveryof effective healthcare within the organisation
DeliverMentalisation Based Therapy (MBT) within the Complex Emotional Needs pathwayand Sequoia Therapeutic Community.
Tobecome a member of Sequoia Therapeutic Community and contribute to the activityschedule of including community meetings, small and large existential groupsand teaching of Mentalisation and Dialectical therapies.
Planand secure service user engagement in service delivery.
Identifyrisks to the health and well-being of service users needs through discussionand support the development of care plans to address any shortfalls identified.
Useprofessional judgement to take appropriate action and to prioritise the actionsof other staff to minimise risks in a manner that is consistent with bestpractice, policies and procedures for governance, risk management andsafeguarding.
Challengeconventional practice where this lacks evidence of effectiveness and/oreffective use of resources.
Provideclinical advice and supervision both informally and formally to junior staff.
Supportthe maintenance of supportive relationships within the service.
Toundertake Mentalisation Based Therapy training if not already completed andwork towards accreditation.
Continuedprofessional development will be offered.
Tocontribute to pre- and post-qualification teaching as appropriate.

Experience
* Demonstrable experience of working with adults with mental health problems in a variety of community settings
* Experience of multi-disciplinary team working.
* Experience of inter-agency working.
* Experience of working with clients with Complex Emotional Needs associated with a diagnosis of personality disorder.
* Experience and skills in risk assessment and management.
* Experience of audit/service development.
* Experience of the use of a variety of therapeutic tools.
* Knowledge of clinical governance.
Knowledge
* Exceptional interpersonal, influencing and communication skills and the ability to engage Service Users, clinicians and other stakeholder groups.
* Able to empathise, be supportive and sensitive to the needs of others as well as being able to cope with highly distressing circumstances.
* Ability to identify child or adult protection concerns, raise alerts and participate in safeguarding enquires/investigations/case conferences.
* Professional and service user focussed approach with inspirational skills, acting as a role model to colleagues and junior staff members.

* Demonstrable experience of managing difficult situations with service users that have complex mental health conditions and challenging behaviours.

Qualifications
* Recognised professional qualification in therapy e.g. CBT therapist, nursing, social work, occupational therapy or psychology.
* Mentalisation Based Therapy training and/or accreditation.
Additional Requirements
* Must be a car driver with a valid driving licence with appropriate business insurance in order to travel throughout the locality, to meet the needs of the service.
